Guys, you need to investigate how the engine got water in the cylinders (Hydro locked) in the first place. If you don't find the problem, it WILL happen again and next time you could do damage you won't walk away from. Trying to start against the water pressure could easily bend a rod and f*ck the engine. Check the syphon break, make sure it's clear and operating properly. Check your exhaust system and make sure the engine is discharging its exhaust water properly. If it's not or the syphon break isn't working properly when you shut down the engine, sea water rushes back up the exhaust and into the cylinders... Good Luck!!!!!

Much better video. :-) Now for the serious bit. The water did not get in the engine by accident. You need to get the head off to check for head/block cracks or head/block warpage, wet liner seal leak or hopefully just a blown head gasket. Hope you find the problem and get it fixed soon. Have fun. Fair winds & regards from the UK

Making me smile and laugh as usual!!! Starting my morning with you is always a great start to my day! It seems pretty obvious Jorns "friend" thinks more of him than a friend. Haha!! Does he know? How can he not? She's gorgeous and seems to be a sweetheart, MAN...… whatcha waiting on??? Hahaha!!! Things seem to be going great for you so far and looks like it will continue as everyone seems to get along quite nicely. Like someone else mentioned on here, have you looked into why you ended up with water in the engine in the first place? I'm sure you have thought of that, but, just mentioning it to help save you future problems. No need for my two cents because Jorn seems to be pretty mechanically inclined to know where to look. Best wishes with the engine and transmission. Keep that transmission full until you fix it or it'll burn up and be useless which i'm sure you know what that means...… more $$$$$$$! No one wants that! As always my dearest Liz.....keep it real and best wishes with everything!!!!

I didn't notice, but was the guy welding on the new hard rail a crew member with a portable TIG unit, or was that somebody brought in from the yard? If the former, way cool (and make maximum use of that capability while he's on board!). My thought while watching that, was were I not a welder (I am) I probably would have cheaped out and gone for regular life lines even though an Amel is supposed to have hard rails, and used that money elsewhere on the boat. But if you can do it yourselves for just the cost of materials, then of course that changes the equation.

I suspect someone did that here and simply forgot to remove the rag when they re-assembled things. Good to see you here in the comments! What's up with the 21 paintings?

Oh, LORD! Deception and INTRIGUE! And they haven't even Left the Harbor...I'm not sure about the Rum-Fueled Thespianism. Never was much of a Fan of Theatre, lol.. But, Monty Python is always Good..And Benny Hill, Of Course....I liked Tree-Beard's masthead Asides. Now that you got the Rag out of her Intake, and the water out of her cylinders, the engine will seem like a big Tug Engine,LOL! My concern is, How TF did all that Water get inside anyway? All MY Possibilities are BAD Ones. Blown Head gasket, and/or Cracked Block or head internally. Or Warped Head due to Overheating....Captain, I Respectfully Submit let's Pull the transmission and Find that Leak and fix it, and Inspect the clutches/bearings, BEFORE we Burn it Down and Wind Up On The Rocks. As long as the engine Runs At All, It's Good for awhile yet. Transmissions get Overlooked WAY Too Much, however, and it doesn't seem to me like the previous owners gave a rusty rat fuck, or knew little or nothing about PREVENTIVE Maintenance. Trans parts not very common, engine parts much more so. Looking Good So far, otherwise.

Owner was Anthony Butler from Warsash. Reputed to have been SOE during WW2. Expert navigator and contributor/editor of RCC cruising notes - so we had to explore and chart every possible anchorage and channel that interested him. There was no GPS of course, and the Baltic charts were still marked with minefields.

I can't wait for you to watch the next episode because the amazing Jorn is a genius. Papageno has a very good engine. That's how it Is with engines, the Engine Itself can be Good, or Good Enough, it's always the Peripherals that cause the headaches. Bad hoses Blowing, rotten fuel lines breaking, fan belts, worn seals/gaskets and their damned LEAKS, LOL. IIRC, Liz already had the alternator Rebuilt? Snag a Spare, if possible. As long as the engine doesn't knock or clatter LOUDLY, or Run poorly, it should be Good. It'll Warn you Beforehand when it's Sick. The Transmission WON'T. It'll quietly Work until it Goes Out. @@EarleWrites
@netpackrat
@netpackrat 5 жыл бұрын
It definitely didn't do the engine any good, but at least it was just hydraulic locked and not seized, but sometimes even a seized engine can be revived and continue in service. This one may go a few months and croak or it may go for years. A lot of variables and things that can go wrong, but marine diesels are at least built pretty tough. Certainly saving for a re-power sooner or later is in order with a boat that age regardless. I hope they changed the oil after they got the water out of the cylinders. And now while they are in a port is the time to start picking up spares. Spare accessories, spare belts, spare cable and wiring, injectors, spare sealant, gaskets, gasket making material, etc. A sheet of gasket material and some razor blades can be a life saver. For sure track down what let the water into the engine, not only so it doesn't happen again, but because add another failure point in that system, and it could just as easily sink the boat. Oh yeah, extra pumps and make sure there is a manual pump in working order. Good news is at least they can sail now even if the engine doesn't work.
