In the early '70s, I had a record store in Sacramento called The Record Exchange. They would stop in, occasionally. I knew them as Vip Vop and Poison Ivy.

I frequented many early Cleveland (proto) punk gigs and I can assure you that most of the audience looked just like that, myself included (we just don't like admitting to it). The fashion part came later. You couldn't even FIND a pair of straight legged pants in 1972. We may have looked like hippies, but we sure weren't listening to any hippie music. Stay Sick.

They're always beautiful to me. My cat's called Lux. On the day we got him we were going to see The Cramps. Half way through the show, I said " Our new kitty's called Lux!" Lux had his slinky pvc number on and our eight week old kitty had such shiny black fur. Our Lux lived up to his namesake awesomely!!

In the 70's and 80's a lot of youth went from being hippies to being Goth, then in the 90's and up until now they go from being Goth to being hippies. Christ, seems like it never ends.

I SAW A BIGGER , SOMEWHAT CLEARER , COPY OF THIS PIC (NOT THAT THIS DOES'NT LOOK GOOD.). I COULD TELL , RIGHT AWAY , THAT WAS IVY , FROM EARLIER PHOTOS OF HER ,SANS MAKEUP AND HENNA'ED HAIR. I HAD TO LOOK FOR A WHILE , BUT , THE SHAPE OF HIS HEAD AND FACE ....I BELIEVE THAT'S HIM. They never tried to deny they had once been Hippies , unlike a lot of "Punks". Did people expect then to look like Nico and Lou Reed in 1972? Besides , Lux looks more like Roky Erickson than Jerry Garcia !

I don't like buying into the trope that two entities were made for each other. It implies that the hard work is already done and encourages idealism in a partnership... That being said the connection these two had to each other and the world around them resonates on a profound level that's hard to deny; appears fateful.

Nor were The Carpenters, Karen & Richard, the famous singing duo, hippies. This is a popular misconception that all youth of the late 1960s/early '70s were hippies with left-wing political views. This was simply not the case. In fact, the majority of young people in the early 1970s were not hippies, nor did they have left-wing political views, which is one reason Nixon was re-elected president in 1972.

Not "everyone" was a hippie in 1972. Tricia Nixon Cox (eldest daughter of the late 37th U.S. president, Richard M. Nixon) wasn't a hippie, for instance. And neither were her sister, Julie Nixon Eisenhower, nor Julie's husband, David Eisenhower (grandson of the 34th president, Dwight D. Eisenhower), hippies..
@pfordsq11 жыл бұрын
I believe the part about Lux's Son selling this picture to whoever.....A friend of mine bought a picture from him that I won't divulge the details of (NOTHING INCRIMINATING.) . Well , Julie Nixon was NOT a Hippie , but , she did invite Grace Slick to THE WHITE HOUSE FOR HER HS REUNION. Grace's date was Abbie Hoffman. The two were told to leave. Nixon's boys were on their toes , but , they had to tell him WHO Elvis was , and that an audience with him , a "Date With Elvis" would be good P.R. At least , that's what I read.......
@pfordsq10 жыл бұрын
OK , it was probably Tricia Nixon. But , seriously. Did people think Lux and Ivy were'nt once Hippies , when they often admitted they were? Sure , they were going around dressed like Lou Reed and Nico in 1972 . Ina pig's ass.

"Date with Elvis," hah!--nice how you worked that in relevantly. That was a really good Cramps album, with the catchy and crazy track "Can Your Pussy Do the Dog?" Cha-cha-cha! And while I eventually saw (and heard) The Cramps in concert several times, the first two times I attended their concerts I passed out and missed the entire show. Can you imagine anyone remaining unconscious through a Cramps concert? I think perhaps I had done more than consume alcohol, perhaps some Quaaludes or other chemical combination ingested with the booze. I almost became convinced there was some curse upon me that had caused me to keep missing The Cramps perform live, even though I had all their records up to that point. But the "curse" must have been lifted, as I continued to attend Cramps concerts and was coherent and conscious for them every other time after that second concert I missed even while on the premises. In fact, attending concerts by The Cramps and The Ramones were always big events in my life and for many of my friends of that period.
