Such a great surprise to get "new" 707 music in 2023! Thanks for taking the time and effort, Jim, to give us this wonderful treat. I still have the first two 707 albums in my regular rotation. Haven't got tired of them yet. Saw you guys open for REO in Charleston, WV, in March, 1981.

Thanks Jim , always fun to listen to. Now that I'm a Livonia Mi resident, what was the Livonia conection and what venues in Mi did you play?

707 never played together as a band until after we all joined together in Los Angeles. Phil and I were friends in high school and moved to Southern California together. Kevin and I met in Detroit and renewed our friendship and musical pursuits in L.A. And Kevin met Duke on a "casual" or unrehearsed pick-up gig. But when we returned to the Detroit area while touring we played places like Harpo's as a headliner. And Cobo Hall as part of a three band concert. We also played a club in Ann Arbor but I can't recall its name.

Hi Jim. Are you still in touch with any of your former band mates?
@SBGGCA Жыл бұрын
I am, yes. Not as frequently as in the past, but we are still friends. Duke, however, passed away several years back.

Jim, how did the name 707 come about?
@SBGGCA Жыл бұрын
Good question. It's pretty simple. We were searching for a name. We had several ideas .... none of them good. There had never been a number-named band. Even though the B-52's were kicking around, they still had a letter in their name. So, we started playing with recognizable numbers. And we wanted something that would work internationally and be pronounceable in any language. At first, we came up 747, but when I wrote it out it looked uneven. It would be difficult to make into a pleasing logo. So, I looked at 707 and it seemed balanced. It also fit all the preceding qualifications. So, it was our new name. Later, when we moved north of San Francisco, we discovered that it was a local area code. And it was also Kevin's birthday (July 7). And, of course, the airplane. But, none of those were the inspiration for the name. We just liked the look of it.
