He had badly set up his calendar. The feeding season starts on 16ᵗʰ December and this poor guy thought that it was that day. He looks a bit confused like: "Wait a minute, where is food? Today is not 16ᵗʰ December, the start of the season??"

Very interesting. We have a massive amount of deer here in Central Alberta and there is nothing like this yet they are extremely abundant and sadly hit by cars often.
