It makes me feel so much better to see your real life garden. I’ve only been a gardener in 7b Northern Alabama for 3 yrs and I’m still learning what heat and humidity does to plants. Realizing that my annuals have been growing now for 6 months. No wonder they don’t look prime anymore like someone’s in an area that doesn’t get to plant until Mother’s Day or later. Thank you for keeping it real and honest.

You are 100 percent correct! Southern gardens are a whole other beast than gardens in areas with shorter growing seasons. Be inspired by others but don’t fall into the comparison trap 🥰

Thanks so much for keepin' it real Jenny, I especially appreciated seeing the dahlia patch! This is my first year with a section for dahlias. The flowers have been beautiful but I cant say much about the foliage. Next year I think iĺl add zinnias in between to help hide some of that funkiness. You are a sweetheart with a good outlook and fun sense of humor!

I Looked up meaning from The Georgia Gardener, “…I was raised in S.C. and graduated from Columbia College( a girls’ college) in Columbia, SC in the early ‘60s. At college I learned the word “surcie”. It meant a small gift such as thinking of you; I love you; this reminded me of you, etc. Yes, it could be your favorite gum or object of your favorite color. My husband and I had two sons. This is a word I used affectionately with them as they grew up. Now I used it with our grandones. The original meaning I do not know but the word “surcie” really gives a warm fuzzy to the receiver as well as the giver.” Apparently used in South, love it. 😅😊

Thank you, for showing beauty in the mess. Part of my garden is a meadow style and I really luv it even though it gets messy, like nature intended. Friends and neighbors click their tongues against because it is not neat and tidy. I see the beauty of the mixed flowers and very happy pollinators. Nature is beautiful.

We had a super HOT DRY summer here in zone 4b and evenings did not cool down as they normally would. My limelight’s despite a deep soaking weekly did not prevent them from turning brown instead of the gorgeous pink they were last year…so even up here in the “cooler climates “ the browning can happen. Oh well it’s gardening! Oh and my hostas look just like yours! Those poor things are tired and just want to take a nap!

Total number of plants - 7? Love you all showing every stage of your beautiful gardens. It does really help to see the good, the bad and ugly at times so the rest of us home gardeners don't cry and give up. LOL! Kinda like I did for a few weeks this oppressive summer in my Dallas. Lord, help! And we +are still experiencing 90+ weather. Love Brynna! Just let her play. We love seeing her enjoying her habitat and sticks. And I'm filling my Creekside Nursery cart with goodies! Wish ya'll had the tea olives too. You have sold me on those for part of the privacy hedge along our fence line. Thank you so much, Jenny! I do get inspired, encouraged and lots of wonderful information from you and Jerry! You really help me not give up and throw in the trowel! And hubby says he loves your accent. :)

Hi Jenny & Jerry, THANKYOU for the info on Camellia Japonica flowers going brown on plant and dropping due to water stress. Here we’ve come out of three years of La Niṉa, so wayyyy too much rain. We’ve now gone straight into El ninõ which brought our driest Winter and September on record. I was worried about my beautiful Camellia that budded up but then all the flower buds turned brown and dropped Barr a few. I didn’t even click that it’d been used to loads of water and suddenly hardly any at all and as it’s a well established shrub, I was remiss in giving the poor thing supplemental water. Case closed thanks to your sage and extremely helpful advice. Thanks for all you do. 🙏🏻 Love your channel and wonderful garden advice.🌲🌱🌷🌺 Have a magnificent weekend. Louisa, 😊 From Melbourne,Australia. 🇦🇺

Thanks Jeeny for the look at the dahlia.beds. I had seen a few flowers in vases during your Q&A chats with Jerry on the porch but wondered how the rows looked. Your's are definately on the autumn decline, where Laura's dahlias (from GardenAnswer) are in their prime. Big differences between your 7B garden growing zone and her 6A zone. Happy fall gardening to you and all the Creekside family.

Beautiful gardens! Just an FYI - Preen makes many weed killer products that contain trifluralin, which is toxic to pollinators and will kill bees. I believe only one of their products (Natural Vegetable Garden Weed Preventative?) does not. It's so imporrtant to read the ingredients and know which are harmful to pollinators. Just friendly advice to help out our pollinator friends out there!
