Vassal Seeding is another viable early game option: Once you have founded your first 3 cities (4 with Adept Settlers), you can run into an expansion lull, before you gathered enough imperium to raise city cap AND found the fourth city. This gap can often be overcome by releasing one of your cities as a vassal and use the free imperium to continue to drop more cities. Released vassals start with a high allegiance already, and they'll make up for the lost incomes partially with tributes. As long as your Whispering Stones are still bound to Free Cities, those released vassals don't need any support, but once the Free Cities are divvied up, you can still build up your former cities to Supreme Vassalage. If your imperium income satisfies all your needs, you can just reintegrate them.

An interesting option is the ability to move your Throne to a front city. It takes only 3 turns, and doesn't have an additional cost associated. Advantages: 1: You get your heroes and rally of the liege troops where you need them. With the slow land movement of a lot of units, this is quite a considerable upside, until you had time to set up a teleporter network, at the threshold between middle and late game. 2. The increased sighting range from your wizard tower doesn't really do a lot for you in your safe and cleansed out starting area. It does a lot more for you right on the frontiers of your empire. Disadvantages: 1. Risk, ofc, if you lose your capital, you are in a world of pain. OTOH, you don't want to lose any one of your front cities either, so you have to guard against that anyways. 2. Front cities are generally less economically developed, so it's harder to raise your wizard's tower. But with no economical costs associated with switching the Throne city, you can return the Throne to an economic center with high production, whenever you have enough gold floating to actually tower up.

I would add small one: "remember about whisperng stones" from beginig when u can boost own city to early game when u can switch them for better relation or to expend new citys.

This is something I always forget and its so frustrating to remember turns and turns into the game. So now I always rename my city on turn one and that always reminds me. :)

Great video! I usually consider I'm in the early game until: 4 stacks, 3+ cities, (Ideally min 3 farms, 3 foresters, 3 quarry, 1 gold, 1 conduit and 1 research in capital and 2nd city), Tier 3 building is completed in capital or 2nd city, and 1st Tier 3 unit in production, all the territory within and immediately around my cities is clear of mobs. Turn 35-40, most games. That's the checklist, but will likely vary because of map and player/enemy/free city spawnings.

I take a little different approach on expansion. I like to let the AI forward settle me while I expand in the other direction, then I just take their cities that they kindly built up for me.
