I e worked on three farms before, milking is fun. But ploughing and bringing in the crops is good fun too. Love the old tractors more than the new ones, When do o start

Fantastic video. Makes me appreciate how easy my seven llamas are to muck out and bed down. Maybe I should try a video diary of my llama farm.

How may cows do you have and how much land do you farm?
@Brooke_RS1977 жыл бұрын
Just curious Richard as to why you put the straw at the foot of the cubicle? In our system weve got the same style cubicles as yours except we throw it to the front of the stall instead, put more in then as well, gives the cows the opportunity to nibble at some if they feel the need but they also drag the straw back, and as they run out at the front (takes 2-3 days) you put more in and its almost like a self feeding conveyor system.. hope my comment makes sense 😂

Brooke Cable That's bedding for the cows
@Brooke_RS1977 жыл бұрын
John Mcdonnell i realise that.. the same as ours mate im just asking why he puts it where he does is all 😂
@johnmcdonnell36167 жыл бұрын
Brooke Cable Its straw you use it for bedding its not hay or silage cows don't eat it. He puts it there because that's where the cows lie down.
@Brooke_RS1977 жыл бұрын
John Mcdonnell go and do a course on cattle nutrition mate, cows will eat straw if its presented to them, it helps when cows get upset stomaches and a cow will actively seek high fibrous foods.. so yes cattle will eat straw
@Brooke_RS1977 жыл бұрын
John Mcdonnell also im gunna guess youre a young lad, so take a look at something called Total Mixed Ration (TMR) its a feed mixture of silage, wholecrop and straw.. and this is used as a feed as the straw has useful feed value properties to further promote digestion
@leoyates75777 жыл бұрын
Hi rich why don't u get a straw spreader for your spare tractor and put the bales in then do one side at a time. It will be easier and faster👍🏻 Good vid
@Brooke_RS1977 жыл бұрын
Leo Yates they arent cheap machines and on a very small family farm its not worth it
@leoyates75777 жыл бұрын
Brooke Cable he could get a old one for the 3 point
@Brooke_RS1977 жыл бұрын
Leo Yates whilst thats true.. youve got to think of cost.. machinery is an EXPENSE and not an investment.. it costs more to run and on a small farm the time it saves wont outcost the fuel and maintenance of the chopper.. in fact the ways in which family farms produce milk is more cost effective than your large dairy units
