Playable character here is model of Fishmonger, his concept art is in AC Encyclopedia.

Surprising it dates from March 2006 when the first playable demo was presented in September 2006. Shows how fast Ubisoft Montreal worked on the game.

1:34 vs 1:40 Possibility to choose between parkour down and parkour up was on the table since 2006 🥲

also that one move looks very much like a valut which is interesting to see considering its such an obscure mechanic in the first game. I wonder if the devs forgot it even existed since there was never any tutorial on the move

Assassin's Creed has come a long way but the most important decisions were made in the first years of the series. Making a PoP game into a start of the new game series is the first decision. Then AC 1 was sci-fi styled with history included. But in AC 2 it was the opposite already - history "based" game with elements of sci-fi. These 2 things is what made AC a successful series

i miss when running through a crowd was a tripping hazard, AC1-Revelations were so unabashedly Assassins Creed, after Patrice left it seems his influence on the series slowly faded and the series became more and more simplistic. AC3 onwards the series identity shifted and shifted to appeal to a wider audience. Its like Asmongold said when AC valhalla was coming out, he doesn't want Assassins Creed to appeal to him, it shouldn't have had to strip itself of its uniqueness that so many fans fell in love with back in 2007.

assassin's creed became a lot more simple ever since ac3 with the stealth and just the combat system in general. unity tried to change that and it sort of worked because nowadays the ac games have been more complicated than just pressing 2 buttons to kill an enemy. it became a hack and slash game.
