Fates scale in difficulty with how many people are in the zone when they spawn. It’s possible there were a lot of people in the zone at the time

@@GuyN0ir does not feel so, actually. Some Fates pretty much show that defeating it solo is impossible without good experience and strategy. There are some few choice Fates that need big parties to defeat it.

@@rainbowprism6242 Each zone has exactly two boss FATEs that are not possible solo. Both of them offer an achievement after completion. One of them is 30 minutes and requires a party of 4 players at least (with a tank and healer) and another is 15 minutes but requires at least 2 players to beat.

I heard (can't remember where exactly so no source from me either) that they scale depending on how many people participated the last time the fate was active and the difficulty resets when the fate is failed. While searching for information on fates regarding respawn times etc I didn't find anything regarding scaling that's why I'm asking for a source.

Just because I'm making fun of something's weak points doesn't mean I can't love it for what it does well.

Again, I can explain this :D 0:06 When you first load in, especially on certain popular servers and areas, the game will try and load everyone there and I mean EVERYONE, bit of a sensory overload for some but once you leave out into the first few zones, generally far more sparing of other players. Also, it looks like the player is an Au'ra. 0:13 The literal first enemy you are gonna see, no joke, is a ladybug, it is also the first quest as well. 0:17 And no, it isn't a threat at all XD 0:35 So in the overworld of FF14, there are events that spawn fairly often called FATEs, usually, it starts with an NPC saying "X monster is attacking my X, help me." and yes, there are legit vegetable people that beat people up, welcome to FF14. 0:40 And much like early enemies, not much of a threat. 0:55 The early levels are given incredibly quickly btw. 0:59 This is just self explanatory, anyone who has played an MMO has seen this one, you do a quest for someone, and the moment it's finished, the next player can also do it.

@@LadyLunarPhoenix this is the perfect flow a game should have, it's actually why I dropped all of the MMOs and started playing single player games. they won't add a new version of an item for u to grind every month, they don't have special events that give u limited time cosmectics, hackers and botters won't mess around with the economy and the "server" won't die. I mean, I really love how MMOs are in progression because I love going on quests and killing the weakest lv 1 slime in the beginning to later on end up at lv 50 killing giants, corrupted arcane valkyries and mana spiral elemental entities. and then upgrading gear by grinding a lot, getting "legendary items" from hard bosses. but with lots of them being either p2w, or not respecting your time, or timegating you out of stuff, having limited cosmectics like I said earlier, u get more stressed out while playing than having fun. IDK how FFXIV is, haven't played it personally, I think it looks awesome, it's my type of game for sure, but I do find that most of the MMOs out there being in one way or another very draining. your time, your money, your hopes for the game to get better... most of them. so yeah, YoshiP is tot right! I mean, I've been following this phrase as an advice I gave for myself years ago and it's been one heck of a fun ride playing single player games.

So, they decided to replicate that early Final Fantasy. It was FF1 or 2 I forget. There is the starting zone with the lowest level monsters. If you go down this path nearby you will encounter end game monsters.

@@lanceknightmare each zone has a few max level monsters. They won't attack you on their own, but they *will* annihilate you if you touch them. They are called hunt marks because, well, you get points for hunting them.

@@diersteinjulien6773 I remember hunting marks in Final Fantasy 12. Hunts were fun in that game though the system was flawed. You had to hunt x monster before y monster could be hunted. Some of the hunt triggers were hard to figure out. Way too much backtracking. The system in Final Fantasy 13 seemed to learn from the mistakes of FF12. Monster Hunter 4 has a much more difficult to learn hunting system. It does what it does really well. The difficulty could go a little less crazy though. I stalled on Hard Mode 8 🌟

I remember my first Boss Fate. Having done "elite" creatures in WoW, I thought it would be easy. So I lined up, started "strong" I felt .... and got smacked so hard Hydaelyn had trouble stitching my together. Going to be fun when Carbot gets into its first 8 man raid with 5 mechanics going off at the same time and all you have is 1 tiny little sliver on the platform that is safe, but it's only safe for 2 seconds as the 5 mechanics go off in sequels so you need to learn in a split second where the next safe area is. Of all the MMORPGs I have played FFXIVs early game whilst lot of small things actually felt the most genuine. In Limsa there is a quest giver who basically tricks you twice to prove that you shouldn't blindly trust people and that trust should be earnt. Many of the early quests establish you in a good way going from a nobody into local hero culminating with the airship cutscene when you leave. Of any MMORPG story so far FFXIV has made me feel more engaged than many others

tips: if join there are main quests and side quests. main quests exp rate is pretty damn high so you can ignore sides if trying to go through a realm reborn main story. on fates early on they do help gain bonus exp and gil(money basically) but not required. eventually once you gain access to a grand company those fates grant a currency called seals which is use to promote your GC rank and buy items like popular ones being Glamour prisms for transmogging. duty finders (carbot wil leventually do vid on this) will eventually offer this too but only for one time as a daily thing. to get more need to be specific role that duty finder is looking for mainly tanks and healers. theres also hunts which imo havnt done much of yet but those offer seals too.

Nah. You were killing waaay too many things for this to be early FFXIV questing. You forgot the like 30 "go and talk to this guy and then come back" quests you did between getting each kill quest.

Hey me to. Tried out FF14 and got to lvl 14 or something. Just the general aesthetic, music and feel of the game just felt too jarring and I couldn't continue. Went over to ESO as well since I had played that in the past and it feels more homey since I've also played a bunch of Skyrim/oblivion.

Okay, right out the gate, this is why I turn off showing ALL NAME TAGS and floating damage numbers/text, and am doing end game content without a hint of frustration despite the likely projected limitations that most would fear would come from doing so. Been doing this for nearly a year and I'm lovin it.

Can one of the MMO Veterans explain this to me? Why is it 'required' in every MMO that the first few hours of questing are so easy and undemanding it's esentially busywork? Do you lose anything if the first few hours are also exciting and at elast a bit challenging? Genuinly asking 🤔

It's more about being an RPG feature than actual MMO issue. The whole idea is that you are having a character progression, starting as a low level, you can't go face big threats, you're still training and improving yourself, so you get menial tasks and the more you get stronger and shape yourself by being a better adventurer, plus earning a reputation, you'll start getting new jobs for you that only get harder and more dangerous.

It's for new and potentially younger players that haven't played before. If someone who has never played an MMO before decides your MMO will be the first one, you don't want to smack them in the face with both a new system/abilities AND difficulty. You want them to explore and have a good first experience while everything is still new, fresh, and exciting. While this can get boring for veteran players, vets know at this point they will just have to get through it. Especially in FF14 where the it's pretty known it gets good later.

@@MrJesuisOMG I get the progression feeling but (for me at least) isn't that way more the case when you start out super weak and almost everybody kicks your butt and then you work your way up instead of starting by being 'invincible' in the low level area and progressing to being 'invincible' in the high level area. Soulslikes or the Gothic games are RPGs and you don't cakewalk through anything early there. I seem to be not getting something here 😅 But thank you for explaining 😊

So you can learn. You start with like 1-2 abilities, learn to use them, get a new ability, learn to use it, after a while you have something resembling an actual rotation. Not everyone is an MMO veteran, than can just read tooltips of his 20 skills and 10 traits and use them effectively. Also starting low means that progress feels good.
