I produced extra "Early Reflection IRs" to "push" musical instruments acoustically into the depth of the concert hall.
Load such an impulse response (IR) into a Convolution Reverb PlugIn and set via WET/DRY - control from which stage depth the instrument should play. Watch the video and have fun.

I bought the course days ago and I am very impressed with this method. The tutorials are rich in material, easy to comprehend. Now I can finally build a template I feel confident about! Thank you, Beat.

Glad you can be successful with my tutorial. If you have libraries that already allow you to set different room depths with the different microphone signals, you can also solve the placement of the instruments this way. Like here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJCxoaeqj7J0qaM (It also works with other libraries, not only with VSL).

@@KaufmannBeat Thank you, Beat - I work with the CInematic Studios series (Brass, WW, Strings), and since I work according to your method now, I avoid using the Room microphone entirely. If you aren't familiar with their libraries, their instruments come with Close, Main, and Room microphones. The "Main" microphone is placed in front of the ensemble in situ, I believe. It sounds a bit fatter than the "Room" mic, but I am afraid the Room mic will have reflections baked in. I no longer need the reflections, as I use a convolution reverb in my various Depth Groups, like your tutorial specifies.

Hello Mr. Kaufmann, Thanks for this tutorial. I own different reverb plugins includent cinematic room pro. Do we need a convolution reverb for the ER reverb ? Can we achieve the same dept placement effect by only enabling the ER module of Cinematic Room Pro ? Or is it better to stick to Convolution reverbs like Altiverb, Reverberate and Space (EW)?

E: Depending on the algorithm, modern algo reverb effects also work today to create pure room depth without tail. See also: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6DEkoh9mLWjhas It's not always so clear what reverbs produce, for example, if you only turn up the "ER" parameter. You have to try it out a bit. Sometimes it is enough to shorten the total reverb time to about 0.6s- 1s. This is especially necessary if you can't distinguish between tail and ER. As always, it's the acoustic result that counts! ------------------------------------------------ Visit also: www.beat-kaufmann.com/vitutorials/index.php

Dear Mr. Kaufmann, I want to ask a question. we are taught to push the instruments back in space first with the fader volume, then with the EQ, lowering the treble and region (180-300Hz). after that we are taught to set reverb to emphasize the space. can you comment why not just use the method in your video? Or does this reverb lower the volume and de-equalize itself? thanks a lot! I hope, you understood me. sorry for the mistakes, I write through a translator

Whether an instrument sounds far away to us or not has to do with some physical factors. Far away means that the instrument signal ... A) ...is damped in the high frequencies (the farther away, the darker). B) is usually also damped a little in the low frequencies. C) sounds quieter than if the instrument were playing in front of you. D) contains more indirect sound components or, in other words, that the direct sound components become less compared to the indirect ones the farther away an instrument plays. So everything you tell us is true. A room impulse recorded at a distance naturally combines all physical conditions A)...D) because the room impulse reproduces a "real situation". Never the less, space impulses can also contain errors: They represent a temporal "snapshot". In reality, the physical parameters always modulate (change) a little. The second error depends on how good the recording system was that recorded the early reflection pulse. And the third "error" can be the recorded room itself, namely that it sounds discoloured or in another way bad. This sound colouration is of course also transferred to the instrument signal when we apply such room impulses. I hope I was able to explain everything understandably. Beat

How can I get those IRs
@KaufmannBeat
@KaufmannBeat 2 жыл бұрын
They are included in the tutorial "Mixing an Orchestra". See at " www.beat-kaufmann.com/mixing-an-orchestra/ " Or you can prepare such an IR yourself. See here at kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIevin2Qd9xph7c and the following minutes. I'm sure you also have a Convolution reverb. Try to do all the steps with your convolution reverb together with a suitable and appropriate impulse as you can see in the Video with HOFA IQ-Reverb2. A lot of success Beat
