Forgive me for sounding like an outsider, but this "Ronald McDonald" does not creep me out at all. I first saw commercials like this on a TV special many years ago when I was a child and was surprised to learn that it was Willard Scott (one of the more well-known weathermen from The Today Show other than Al Roker). Personally, when I see these commercials again, I just remember that bit of history and think, "It's just Willard." Now I'm not really sure who the other guy was (the guy who later played this character), but I am sure who this one is. I see this as a bit of wonderful history as to what the character looked like BEFORE the changes. I think I've finally figured something out: the longer you're used to something, the more you accept it and not fight it. Had this character stayed, some people wouldn't be creeped out by him today. I believe it is that simple.
