Your last comment is so very true. I struggled very early on with Freyja on walks. She would become very fearful and try to run from things. My breeder and trainer both said to keep quiet, and keep moving. Be the leader, and no praise without a perfect rep. I see so many people who can’t pass by another dog and they stop and keep baby talking the dog and praising bad behavior. Socializing a Boerboel when they’re a baby is really pretty easy, with determination. There are a few things I wish I would have done better, but for normal everyday life, Freyja is outstanding.

@stevenzielke3242 from all of our conversations I have come to understand that Freyja is very fortunate to have great owners. The fact that she is allowed to go through the experiences and receives the guidance that she has been receiving. Owners that don't throw in the towel but stick by her and take on the responsibility to guide her through every obstacle. Where she is today is a testament to your hard work and love for her. You can be very proud of yourself. 😊

@@Pawfextion thank you for the kind words. For the most part we knew what we were signing up for when choosing a Boerboel. Putting in a lot of work up front makes for a much more enjoyable living experience day to day. And, the “work” is fun. These dogs are sooo smart and respond so eagerly. The only trick is learning how to communicate. Our breeder and trainer have been awesome at teaching us the communication part. Participating in conversations with other enthusiasts such as yourself helps considerably as well. I also think that breeding for balance rather than size or color makes a big difference. Freyja seems completely past her regression issues. Whether it was trauma, meds, or hormones, she seems back to her normal self. Cheeres

@stevenzielke3242 Balance and temperament is key. This breed has already got enough mass and bone, but when the temperament is not right, you have a loaded gun waiting to go off.

@AnjiDuff The more people we can get on this is side of the debate the better it is for the breed in the long run. Temperament is definitely up there on the priority list.
