It is getting to that time of year when it should be safe to plant most veg outside in the UK. I usually use the end of April as a general benchmark as this is the last predicted frost date in my area. Kind regards. Gary

It's so refreshing and cheering to see spring and seed-sowing elsewhere in the world. Thanks a lot; it's still rather forlorn here with spring nowhere in sight for another month or two. You're making me think about growing celery. I enjoy it, but I've never tried growing it before.

Yes, Spring or even the thought of Spring makes you think that better weather and longer days are just around the corner and before we know it we will be sowing and planting to our hearts content! Thanks, great video. I have a tray of beetroot starts not looking great, started another pot to be safe, but after watching I think I will direct sow some too. I just went through my mental list and think I have everything started or planted, first early potatoes in 2-4 weeks fingers crossed.

Yes, as I identified in the video, I find direct sowing beetroot to be much better than growing in seed trays or pots, I always have more success that way. To help to remember what to sow and plant and when, I have a free veg sowing and planting calendar which I will happily send you a copy. Great suggestions. Zone 8a Central Texas...wish we could grow brassicas in the spring. We are almost 2 weeks passed our last frost date. We are transplanting summer crops. Our temps are already in the 80s...heading for the low 90s.

Hi Valorie and thank you so much for your comment. Your climate in Texas is a good few weeks ahead of ours here in the UK. Our last frost date is a few weeks away so we are just sowing our summer crops at the moment so that they are ready to plant out in May/June. I’m always envious of warmer climates like yours, as we have to wait until June/July to get the temperatures that you are getting at present, although it is getting warmer here, on average, year on year. We have a few days of heavy rain predicted here! Kind regards. Gary

I find celery and celeriac seeds take a little longer to germinate than other veg do it can be a little hit and miss. My wife and I love Cumbria and visit the Lake District at least once a year. Hi Paul, thank you for your comment. Yes, celery is notoriously slow at germinating so you will need to be patient. I would estimate about 3-4 weeks before they start to show. It is well worth the wait though as celery is lovely, especially the variety I suggest in the video. Kind regards. Gary

@The Allotment Garden and Kitchen meteor sown and I will sow again in the autumn. I have Hurst green shaft for the summer and sugar snap pea delim as well. Hurst Green Shaft is the first time that I have grown them an allotmenteer gave me a taster last year. I normally successional sow an early variety all season. My wife could live off beans carrots and peas for every meal 365 days a year. I have had seven successional sowings one year and had fresh peas all summer for her

As stated in the video I’m growing Hurst Green Shaft for the first time so I will see how they go. I have regular succession planting of beans, carrots and peas as well, also lettuce, spring onions and beetroot which we also use all of the time. I’ve literally just come in from the potting shed having sown my first real batch of seeds, although I have already started tomatoes, peppers and onions and they are all doing great. Kind regards.
