There is a way to level up just Vaan. All you have to do is: after you finish the sunstone quest, go to Old Dalan's place. Penelo will leave your party after a quick cutscene, and then you'll be inside Dalan's house. That's when you're free to leave and do the trick by yourself. Also, for people having trouble killing Dustia before it uses Dark, you should config your battle speed to the slowest possible, as well as setting the mode as Wait. That will guarantee that you can use the Phoenix Down in time. Great video. Cheers.

There is a respawning container that usually contains a Phoenix Down in the Esterlands. May have been added in TZA. Able to get this done right after Rogue Tomato, so before you get Penelo. Doing it this way will get you a nice little Gil profit as well instead of investing in more Phoenix Downs.

An easy way to see when he is able to be attacked is as soon as his health bar shows up. Just a tip. Also left a like for you. 400+ views and no reward for making the video.

I'm currently playing the game on xbox one and I'm going to give dustia leveling a try and I understand in order for him to appear vaan must be at 10hp how do you get him to attack himself to get the requirement for him to appear because every time I select to attack myself it does not happen am I doing something wrong or has the attack feature been removed from the game?

Dont need to lower Penelo's HP, just Vaan.

In the video Vaan's health is over 10% so penelo's health triggered the spawn

Awesome video! Very informative and with a lot of details. I just tried it out. However, even with 110 Phoenix Downs I only gained 20 levels, $19k Gil in boot and 400 lps. I went solo (vaan only), yet I feel as if I did something wrong.

Gotta say even though this is an old video you should just put all gambits off except one gambit for vaan and that gambit is "Target any enemy and use a phoenix down" that way the game will always do it for you and when you have battle speed on the lowest setting it will instantly kill the mob.. the hard part is still getting the loot fast enough for you to leave the screen and getting him to respawn after leaving the screen.. 1089 xp is still nice even without the loot

Getting the loot is easy just have the game pause when on the command menu as the item drop still moves but the enemy death animation pauses

Sup Dude Great vid ! Sadly by this point they might have changed the game more i cant seem to target him soon enough Which means he can kill me right before landing the hit of the pheonix down Wierdly enough. he is there already for like a second but until his Cast is half way done he doesnt appear as a target . Might be doing something wrong but still :p

This is definitely one of the trickiest parts of Dustia farming. You need to basically use the Phoenix Down as soon as you're able to. Spamming the menu button as soon as he appears is what I do, until he appears on the list. I don't think it's been patched, but I haven't played since release, so I could be wrong.
