These recipes (or receipts as recipes used to be called) all originate from the 1803 edition of The Frugal Housewife. It is one of my favorite cookbooks because it is very easy to follow. You will see me reference it often.

How do you feel about me not adding music in the background? Good idea or bad? Let me know ^_^ Also I swear that I haven't forgotten about the soap opera it's just that Early American started out as a cooking channel so that's the focus but I will definitely release part 3 eventually!!

If I made that much racket in the kitchen, I'd be sleeping with the horses--10 miles down the road a rancher's place. Bikers here are generally polite if only because every Mami (granny) is well armed and the 2 biggest rules in Indian Country are, you do not scare the kids and you do not bug the old folks. If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

No music please! The cooking and silence is a genuine reflection of the time, as are the sounds of the fire and food preparation. It’s an island of calm reflection and the steak recipe a mouthwatering contemplation in a busy day. As for the romance, that is both instructional and pleasing to watch as it is a part of the American culture as the cooking. In fact, shopping transactions, buying, selling, callers, and day to day maintenance of equipment, hygiene and living, is what makes this such an interesting channel to watch for me three thousand miles away in England. Let your work develop naturally. It’s a lovely channel to watch.

I moved into a 200 year old farmhouse 30 years ago with the dream of living this lifestyle.Being poor and broke helped me achieve this way of life. My farmhouse had no kitchen , no running water, no bathroom. They had a cookhouse in the backyard , away from the house. Water was carried by bucket from local spring a quarter mile away. I always wondered how they cooked there meals without having a refrigerator or stove. After 30 years, I installed a bathroom ,plumbing, up dated electricity ,and a new kitchen. I have a big garden to can my food, chickens for for fresh eggs . I 'm still broke and poor ,but I would not change this lifestyle for anything. I just wish I had a wife like Justine.

I have a greater appreciation for my ancestors now. Imagine a scenario of doing this while tending to a baby or two, maybe being pregnant, and the temperature in the 90's. We really do have it easier now. Those bowls were heavy. I have a photo of an ancestor who has the wood burning stove outside. They must have done that during the warmer months. A bit like a BBQ grill. Probably slept outside when they could.

How you made the beef flanks is how I make Salisbury steak, except the meat is cut thinner, in a dutch oven and with mushrooms. I do like it without the music. I am glad that you are showing the higher cut dresses that were used while cooking.

Justine, scraping the carrots is easier than cutting the skin off. Everything looks great though! Have you gotten rid of the stupid french furrier yet? And, no music except perhaps for an intro and out. Enjoyed the natural sounds of the fire and dishes with the food being cooked.

Thanks for the fantastic and artistic culinary masterpieces. These women worked very hard preparing meals. She was sweating, very warm by these open hearth fireplaces. Love to view this content.😊💚🧡⚘

Wonderful recipe, some times, you don’t need many ingredients but know how to use them, my grand mother teach me how to make the same recipes his grandmother make to her, this knowledge must be saved 👍

Nice recipes , thank you for sharing. I liked your videos more with background music ( just my opinion ), it makes me experience the 18 century vibes much better than without music. Though good job on todays video !
