It has been alleged that 2.5 lakh investors have duped of Rs 1500 crores. After registration of 40 cases, Bhati surrendered in June 2019 and was subsequently arrested. He is presently in judicial custody. Garvit Innovative Promoters had come out with a scheme which offered huge returns on investments. The scheme was a bike taxi service in the name of Bike Bot. A diploma holder in engineering, Bhati offered his customers an option of investing in odd multiples of 1,3, 5 and 7 bikes which would then be maintained and operated by his company. In return, investors were promised a monthly rental, EMI and bonuses. They were also offered additional incentives on adding new members in a multi-level marketing structure. “The company also allotted franchisees in various cities but the bike taxi hardly operated in these cities,” said the ED on Monday. Bike Bot scheme started in August 2017 and money was collected from investors till November 2019. In November 2018, the promoters of the company floated a new scheme for e-bikes claiming petrol bikes were facing some legal issues pertaining to registration and operation. The cost of investing in e-bikes was double the subscription amount of petrol bikes. “The funds collected were used for repayment to the earlier investors similar to any Ponzi scheme, there was the acquisition of other companies, purchase of various immovable and movable assets,” added the Directorate of Enforcement.
