UPDATE: Watch Part 2 here: • How I got high-paying ...
Hi, I'm Neens and I vlog about my day-to-day journey while living alone in the Philippines! A lot of you have asked me how I was able to earn and become independent at a young age. To answer your questions, I decided to do a two-part series about the jobs I did in college. These jobs enabled me to put myself through school.
Today's video is Part 1, which is all about how I started earning money as a student in the Philippines. Warning: this video is longer than my usual uploads! I tried to include as much info as I can.
That being said, note that this doesn't cover everything. There will be a Part 2 which will discuss some of the strategies I used to apply for and land high-paying freelance jobs.
Thank you for watching my living alone diaries! I appreciate you being here. 🤍

I always try to give as much info as I can. But if I missed anything, reply with your questions here 🙋‍♀️ I’ll answer what I can in future videos. Edit: 85k is in Philippine pesos! 🙂 I wasn’t able to specify it in the subs because I made this video with a Filipino audience in mind. I didn’t expect it to blow up in other countries too 🥹

Hiii ate! Can you give us tips and advices on how did you manage your time as a full time student and a freelancer? Maybe you could also share to us what are the things or documents needed before applying for an online job. I wish to apply for an online job, but I still don't have a valid id and my own bank account which makes me hesitant to apply huhu. Btw, your vlogs are beautiful and inspiring!!! ❤️✨

Unless you dirt poor or something. The only thing your parents would want from you is to receive good education and to find your passion. From my experience stocks, trading and freelancing in some fields was not worth my time. And it wasn’t that I was bad at it but the amount of time invested and reward i got wasn’t worth it. So I’d recommend you is try to find your passion and work on your skills

You will be overloaded with self doubt. And even when getting your job, it'll feel like impostor syndrome where it appears everyone knows what they're doing and you feel like you don't belong. But you definitely belong, you're just being challenged and exposed to something new. I had gone through quite a grueling 4 months of rejections, but I'll say the one thing I held onto at the time was the fact I could feel progress and very slight improvements the more I interviewed. I started always getting rejected after the first phone screen, but after several more, I started getting past that and always rejected on the technical screen. Just take things one step at a time, and as long as there's some form of progress, you'll hit the goal eventually :)

If everybody can just as easily go into this, then market would also be saturated. Society would also lose out on people doing other important jobs that society needs as well. Her journey is unique, just as your journey is unique. So if you feel bad about not being "productive" at her age, remember that life is long, you have your entire life to try out things that work for you and things that don't. And there are some people who can't be working on a freelance basis forever, especially those interested in building an actual professional career in a specific sector or have a specific advocacy that aligns with their interests. It worked out for her because she probably likes what she does and was able to strike while the iron is hot. Don't feel bad if you feel like you haven't hustled the way this person did because nothing is stable and humans will always be required to pivot at some point.

Hi thanks for this video. I'm Filipino and just turned 19. I decided not to go to college this year because I was so scared of failing it due to my mental health issues. I was an achiever consistent honor student but ever since our family broke down and everything basically changed after that, it really took a toll on me. I felt alone and useless because all my life, my vision and dreams are for my family but now that it's not the same as it was, it was also crushed. I felt so betrayed and I was full of hatred and anger with literally everything. It was so hard dealing with it. I tried so hard to make it seem like nothing happened and nothing has changed but it just made it worse for me. We're also poor so we just try to get by what we have. I felt so alone and scared. But in that journey I was learning more about myself and how to love myself and heal. I was depressed and eventually it showed with my grades. I couldn't care less and I was even angry at my school and the teachers because of the system and how their style of teaching doesn't even help me learn anything at all. My future was so foggy that I was unconsciously expecting myself to die at some point near in the future. But alas, here I am. I did try my best to do my assignments and finish them all while dealing with my situations. I'm a perfectionist so you know how that works. It's all or nothing. So I ended up always being late in submissions. Though my works were decent and thought out. It was hard for me to focus at home coz I often dissociate and have symptoms of ADHD tho I'm not diagnosed coz I can't afford it. Maybe I'm just dramatic but I couldn't accept that I have line of 7 on my card. I feel like no school will ever accept me because of it. I even tried to tell my mom that I wanted to drop out while I was grade 12. She beat me up. Fortunately I did graduate. But I have no preparations about college. I'm completely clueless, unprepared and scared. I had no one to help me with it. I don't do Facebook so I have no idea of the fb groups that is helpful and stuff. I am also too anxious. My family shames me for being mentally unstable. Gaslighting me and tortures me in a way that crushes my spirit, confidence and everything. Now I'm useless and worthless. To them. But I was and still are working on forgiving everything. Because I can't even unalive myself. I long to live my dreams that it hurts so bad idk how I'll even get there from here. Because I fckd up my senior year, my mother let me choose if I want to continue on college or not as it would be a waste of time and money if i messed it up again. Seeing as my mental health is at it's worse, we're poor, my grades dropped, I have no strength, energy and confidence that i can make it without hating every second of it, i decided not to go. I decided i need to fix myself first. Because nothing can do it for me. So here i am wanting to be independent away from here. Trying to dominate my fear. Trying to earn my right to take up space. My right to be respected. To gain myself back. To feel deserving and enough to claim my dreams and live it. And eventually step more and more closer towards my dreams. I know I'll do my best to work hard on it. I'll just have to continue being kind to myself and taking care of myself because basically I have no one to do that for me. I want to feel safe. I don't want to just exist and survive anymore. I want go live and breathe life. So I'm trying my best not to be one of my enemies that keeps my self destruct button running. I need to be my own ally that removes the hurtful programs that is not me from my system. So I can be unapologetically authentic with myself. And live my best life. So thanks for the inspiration and keep going💫 I subbed to support ✊thanks for sharing your experiences with us that helped me envision the possibilities of what I can be. That it's not impossible to be free from where I am now. That I can make my life better. I'm really grateful from the bottom of my heart🙏❣✨ If you read this far, thanks for coming to my TED Talk :)) care to have a carrot? 🥕🥕🥕

I dont know how much heaviness you feel but I could only say, please keep going, keep on looking on the things that you would feel grateful in your life. @@sajeloyd986 hahaha same. 🥲 I'm 17 turning 18 the end of the year and I realize that I know dogshit about how to manage my life without my parents and sister. I literally need my sister to guide me how to do the takeout in Jollibee and whenever I feel like I'm in trouble, I would turn my head around as if to look for my parents and sis. So yeah, same as you that I realized I've been spoiled most of my life (as seen when I had a handful of breakdowns, crying sessions, zone-outs, and depressive frustrated slumps in a year due to failing in my acads 😭. I literally broke because I couldn't get what I want.). I look at everyone else around me and they look like they got their lives figured out, they know what to do, and they have a plan to get to their goals in life. Me? I'm barely proactive about my life and I'm just going with the flow. I know that I'm judging people at their best when they also have their own lows, but I can't help it as I used to have a jealous and competitive streak. I really want to take an online job so that I could provide for myself without feeling like I'm a burden to others, but I feel like I don't have the skills to do so. 😥

I once worked as a freelance Writer in Upwork for a few years and only earned around $100 a month. Now, I became a Lightnovel Writer and earns six digits through it. My advice for you, who had also taken the freelancer route, Ease up on instant noodles, pancit canton, and use olive oil when frying things. Having many health problems once you reach the age of 30 or 40 will really bite you. You will not be able to enjoy your earnings at that time.

To all those people who think that they are behind when it comes to achievements, jobs, or opportunities against their peers or younger than them. Do not worry, you are right where you are. If you are anxious about your future, here's this story from the book The horse, the boy, the fox and the mole. They are in the woods and the boy said to the horse, "I can't see my way through" The horse said, "Can you see your next step?" The boy replied, "Yes" Then the horse said, "Then just take that" Saw this post by a someone i forgot. Im not good on English tho. We sometimes focus on our goal regardless of how easy or hard it is or compare ourselves to others that we get distracted that ir overwhelms us. I hope that if u feel lost or powerless, take a little break from what you are doing or simply take that step and enjoy the process of becoming the better you. ❤️

Hi! I'm 30 y.o. and I truly admire young people like you doing freelancing and earning more than enough for themselves. I hope I had the abilities and zeal you have when I was still your age. But as a concerned dialysis nurse, I just noticed some things you might want to reconsider before you eat/take, like the protein/creatinine shake and noodles, also taking pain relievers. I hope you DON'T eat/take them frequently because it's not good for the kidneys and we had patients who suffered because of too much intake of these. Anyway, drink lots of water! Keep taking care of your health because you are an inspiration! Love lots ❤

Acckk you're amazing! I admire you for being independent. I'm graduating and turning 22 this year but doesn't have any corporate job, i just have part-time job at food stall. I visit and tried online jobs but no luck. I feel insecure how can a person around my age is so matured and maabilidad. I'm afraid gagraduate ako na sobrang mangangapa sa adulthood huhuhu. But thanks anyway for this informative video I'll try to research about online jobs starting tomorrow. God bless!

Hi. I'm 19 years old, currently working as a customer chat support (my 3rd call center job and I'm still on training). This is very inspiring for me and thank you so much for this. I know I'm still young, however it is not too late for us to wish having this kind of life as well as a simple one. Stable work/Business and calm life. I know someday we will succeed and beat out life's challenge. I understand how difficult life could be, I'm almost there I know. I have to keep on my feet 'till one day, I become successful and share my success to others

hi, i'm currently out of school. i did not like my prev course so i decided to screw my grades so my family would allow me to shift. i did take the exam for my new course but still anxious of what might happen (esp the results). for the mean time, i tutor and work as a radio dj. i'm still looking for other job that would help me sustain living. i used to be a journalist in our campus but i dunno if that would be enough as a qualification for freelance writing. i badly need some more part time jobs. dunno where to find one huhu. also, overwhelmed and anxious for the future since i'm already 21. anyways. thanks for sharing your journey. it's an extra push for me to even work harder. ✨

It's a huge amount, though. My friend recently graduated and applied to a well-known PH bank which offered her a basic salary of 11k PHP (minimum wage). So yeah, making 85k in here makes people in here say that they in fact have a lotta money.

Hello! I wanna follow your path po. Im a freshie scholar sa ADMU, and also an award-winning campus journalist. I wanna get into freelance copyreading and SEO writing to pay off my tuition and living expenses, but I do not know where to start and I am concerned on how to balance it. I am also very grade conscious and am eyeing for a QPI of 3.80+. I hope your future vlogs cover how to balance time as an independent college student! You are an inspiration, for real.

Online jobs are truly worth it. It’s a fact since foreign cost of living is higher than us so they pay more than local jobs. I Just graduated 3hrs ago and earned a combined of 100k/month from 2 jobs as a software dev. If you want progress in your life in The Philippines, don’t get stuck commuting 1hr per day to office to earn sub-standard wage from a local company.
