This game is going to be a hit. My wife-person is also a big fan. I don't think there's an easier game to teach at this complexity level. It legit takes 10 min or less to explain.

Great review! Got this recently and feel this solves Wingspan's biggest problem (in my opinion) of being over too quickly, just when you get a good engine going the turns are over. With Earth you feel like you get good use of your engine. Glad you guys reviewed this!

Now that you mentioned it, i do feel wingspan ends too quick after the engine running.

First review I have seen from you guys, and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the layout! Quick video but I got an awful lot from it, keep it up! (Also, I just have to say this... and I'm sorry... but its EverDELL, my wife always calls it Everdale even after 200+ plays......😁)

Nicely done review. Good pros and cons. Quick to explain what it’s like, how it plays and some honest evaluation with playing partners. 👍👍

The more I play the more I enjoy it, and the more I can learn to read other players and how to mitigate their tableau, it's all about timing, it's like a Wingspan but made better and simultaneously, it's simply amazing!

You almost sold it to me... until you said its like wingspan. I really dislike wingspan, well to be fair i dont really like stonemaier games and their lack of balance and options. How much better this is than wingspan? For more info I do really like Terraforming, Mage knigh, Arnak, Spirit Island, among others. Thx

@Nicolas Arévalo What I meant about Wingspan but better it's that has some elements of it, but it plays entirely different for example: It has 4 actions but it's simultaneously (other players get a lesser version of the same action of the active player). It has a Tableau, but you have to think in advance how you will make your 4x4 grid, in Winspan you activate your row and that's it, here you activate all your cards in your Tableau (of the same color of the chosen action) and again simultaneously. It has end game scoring (personal and shared) but instead of having most in the round it's who got it first. Eggs = Sprouts Tucked cards = Composted cards I love terraforming mars btw, and I always will play, but sometimes it's nice to have a game that plays well under 90 minutes up to 5 players, but who am I to tell you, maybe you won't like it and that's fine, you can try it in BGA also if you like.

Thank you! Love your reviews. You give so much information in a short time. I think this game may be a good fit for our family; we are fairly new to modern board games. This sounds like a good next step toward more complicated games.

I love these card-based engine building games (Wingspan, Everdell, etc). The unique thing about this game is that it can get pretty big but is much shorter. And you're always doing something because of the simultaneous actions. It's also like you guys said, crunchier than Wingspan.

After I tried it, this went straight to the top of my rankings on Board Game Geek (I use decimals and everything to tier it). I can’t wait to get a copy (my friendly local game store sold out instantly, so I had to try someone else’s)

Kind of in the same bag as Janis ^^, it sits somewhere between Wingspan and TM, it feels like more refined Ares Expedition. Altho I would not say I liked it more than Wingspan but definitely more than TM. It has a good spot in a collection, it is shorter than than both Wingspan and TM, but is not as crunch as elegant as Wingspan in my opinion, but as it is shorter and scratches the same each it has its place

I have played it on the BGA and want to say that I also feel daunted by the too many options and possibilities to earn points. Sometimes I even compost cards just to not paralyse myself. I feel I would still prefer Wingspan and terraformng mars. Wingspan is more elegant in the way you build engine from what you hardly gained and is more okay with higher player count. Transforming mars is just more complex engine. I feel that everybody picks earth for the best playing time versus actions ratio

"Sometimes I even compost cards just to not paralyse myself." Totally did the same thing first few plays... You just can't keep up with all the cards and decisions at first.

The first game I played before you reviewed it! :D I have to say, with more plays I want to play it less and less. I don't like the simultaneous actions, it's more chaotic and solitaire. I don't know what islands the other 3 players had at the end. The cards are so balanced I feel I can do just about anything and will get a fair amount of points. With 2 players the goals are not about who get's them first, but if you get them, so you don't need to be in a rush. Also because it's play time all the time you have no breathing room and I felt a bit drained after that. The end game scoring takes forever. :D All in all this game made me appreciate Ark Nova more and showed me than building engine is for no good if you can't interact with other players/engines. I don't mind it, but I would pick other games to play (7/10). It's a quick crunchy multiplayer solo puzzle.

Good points Michal! I had the opposite experience - the more I played the more I enjoyed it. I'm always interested in what other people are doing, and what resources they're getting so I can figure out what actions they'll pick or which ones I shouldn't pick. Also enjoyed the cards being fairly balanced. Yes, you can get points in a lot of ways, but just one is the most efficient one. Oh yes, totally agree with being drained after playing it. It's super intense and asks for really quick decision-making to keep up. /JT

I had fun when playing it but noticed that it very multi-solitaire. It's a better Wingspan, for me, but neither are anywhere close to joining my collection. It also felt a bit chaotic since everyone is playing simultaneously. I've also noticed that the multi-player solitaire games in my collection are fun at the start, but don't have longevity and stop making it to the table.

This is on my radar, looks good defo for family game level with kids of 8 and 10, they play Everdell happily. I like the idea of stimutanous play as it would keep my 10 year old from getting up to kick a ball around while other people are taking their turn (maybe😂) We have TM as well which we love but this sounds not as complex.

I Love this game when I saw the cover... Considering that we have Cascadia and Planet at home, which of these games will you pick as their companion: Earth, Parks, Meadow, Evergreen or Verdant (in terms of the Nature Theme). Thanks! 👍🙂

Great video, although I must admit that the videos I most expect for - Are those which about games that have a lot of buzz around and yet - there's no consensus about them.. (For example 'Marvel Age of Heroes')

How do you guys think it matches up with Ares Expedition. I got that one already and from what I understand that game generally has the upper hand. The only reason I still consider this one is the girlfriend approval factor.

The mechanism where the inactive players get to do the same thing as the active player (albeit to a lesser degree) is also found in "New Frontiers" (among other games). It's a great mechanism, IMO. But as I already have "New Frontiers" and like the space theme, is it worth also getting "Earth"? Not so sure.

How is player interaction on this one? Is that the kind of game that you just mind with your own farm, or in this case: earth? Can you mess with other people's earth or plans ? 😈
@BoardGameHangover
@BoardGameHangover 9 ай бұрын
The biggest interaction is the race to finish the island and objective cards. You don't impact other plantations too much, but you are fairly interested in what everyone is doing and how far they have progressed.
