Thank you so much for this super video! You are impacting my life! I am 66 years of age and have just started a creative journey, experimenting with some paint. I soon realised, that I want to use clean paint, that will not harm me or anything in nature. That's just the way God made me. And I believe He lead me to you 🙂 We do not have all these wonderful colors of clay and stones in my country, I live in Denmark, but I will try and use what I can find. I have some clay in white, red and blueish brown, it will be my start! Great video, so clear and elexent done! ❤️

Amazing! Thanks so much for your encouraging comments. Amen yes! I'm trying to eliminate plastics from my art practices. So I still cringe when I showed how to make acrylic paint. I hope you are surprised by all the colours you will find in Denmark now your eyes are opened to them. God bless you and your creative journey.

Thank you so much. I love this as I need to use non toxic paints. However I would not add any chemicals. There is an American company making plant based non toxic acrylic alternative medium. i would use it with your methods. I hope to try this … ! Thank you so much. Beautiful

I'm so happy to hear that. I cringe 😒when I recall showing how to make acrylic paint, since I've now set a goal to totally rid my art practices of plastics. I look forward to seeing the paints you make Sheree. Please tag me on Instagram @naturephileart so I can see what you're doing and cheer you on.

Hai. Sebenarnya, metode ini untuk bikin cat watercolour memeng sengaja untuk cat kering. Tidak apa-apa kalau crack. Warna masih bagus. Waktu mau pakai untuk melukis, caranya kasih air degan paint brush seperti biasa untuk watercolour. Apabila Anda mau cat y selalu basah, sebaiknya bikin cat acrylic (seperti metode khusus di video - dgn tambahkan acrylic medium) dan simpan dalam gelas tertutup. (Harap jelas mengerti. Maaf, saya jarang berbahasa dewasa ini - mungkin sejelas lumpur... lol)

What would be the earth pigment for blue? Would like to start making my own and have a triad ...red, yellow and blue. Reds are easy to find....yellow is fairly common if not just go with ocher......but a good blue......?
@barbaratippercreative
@barbaratippercreative Жыл бұрын
I cannot find any blue earth local to me, but vivianite has been found in some places. (Do your research local to you.) Just please be sure it is legal and ethical to access any you find. For my peace of mind I use indigo (plant based pigment) for my natural blues and greens.

This was so helpful.I’m new to natural pigments although I only paint with inks and acrylic paints… Instead of honey or glycerin, what could I use for acrylic paints? Which medium…. Thank you so. much
@barbaratippercreative
@barbaratippercreative Жыл бұрын
Hi Christine. I am really trying to get away from acrylics and stay all natural - because plastics are polluting and suffocating our environment - so I feel some dissonance helping you out here. But I understand you're asking for the bonding medium for making earth pigment acrylic paint (rather than the preservative and conditioner - which is the function of honey or glycerin). Actually, I thought I mentioned it in the video - you can use acrylic medium from an art store, or you can get it cheaper in bulk from your local hardware or house paints store (here it's a product called Floetrol). It's the same stuff you'd use for acrylic flow art. Please be environmentally aware with disposal and washing up of acrylics and never pour them down the drain or on the garden. Let them dry up, wrap in paper and place in the landfill waste collection. Earth pigments are great as inks. They go a long way and are not fugitive like botanical inks. Have fun!

Hi Barbara first of all - thanks so much for sharing! I have a question, I want to make with earth pigment something for outside on fabric - what is the best approach, how to make it more waterproof? can you recommend a recipe?
@barbaratippercreative
@barbaratippercreative Жыл бұрын
Hi Evgenia. Great question. You are talking about earth pigments as dyes, not paints. So you could research it using those terms. Check out Japanese Bengala dyes, for example. And African bogolan (mud-dyed cloth or mud-painted cloth). In my experience, it is important to premordant your fabric - I use soy milk for the natural approach. This gives the dye something to bond with. Do not rinse. Leave to dry or use straight away. Next soak the fabric in your earth pigment dye, (or paint it on the fabric) and leave to settle. Gently wring (do not wash) and hang to dry in the sun. Iron (hot) to help set it. Now it should be reasonably waterproof so you can even wash it (gently) with only a little fading each wash. Good luck.

@@barbaratippercreative Hi Barbara - tonnes of thanks for replying. In fact im trying to create paint, not dye:) - to be able to brush it as in calligraphy (with traditional japanese or chinese brush) so trying to get a consistency a bit thicker than ink but with lightfastness and a bit of rain-resistance as the artworks is supposed to be a banner for the outside. I hope i explain myself well. One recipe i have seen is using soya milk both as fabric mordant and inside the paint as a binder... I want to try this. But of course for me would be easier not to mordant the fabric at all as the pieces are big and it is an extra large chunk of work... so if i figure out that i dont need it at all then i dont do this. Let me know your thoughts on soy part of the story - do you think if i only use soy in paint and not the fabric itself will this work or better to do both? thanks once again for sharing your experience!
@barbaratippercreative

@@EvgeniaEmets sounds like a good method just mixing your paint with soy milk and certainly worth a try. Just test it first on something smaller! How wonderful.☺

Great question. Any essential oil that has preservative qualities. You'll have a great range to choose from! I like to have ONE as my signature scent but you could use a whole range, perhaps according to colour! (I adore boronia but it's hard for me to access.) Something native to your region would be appropriate to honour country.

You really need some kind of binder - any other transparent gum would suffice. Some people use a gum arabic powder or solid which they need to liquify first.
