I was born in the '70s, but I'm envious of those who were teens and adults during that time because there was so many outstanding musicians and performers. They say the golden era of hip hop was during the '90s (which was my coming of age), but I think the '70s was the golden era for RnB.

LOVE THIS MESSAGE AND SONG!!! Maurice White was truly a genius and Buddha of his time. If you've ever listened to the lyrics of this song, "That's The Way Of The World", and you agree with them, then you're a card carrying liberal/progressive and you need not be made to feel ashamed that you possess a heart of gold. This song says, "...a child is born, with a heart of gold. Way of the world makes his heart grow cold." If that's not a belief in the inherent goodness of man vs the belief that man is inherently evil or bad, nothing will convince you. Man is good...it's the conditions he has to navigate that effects his choices that often plays into his choices that we never see. Yet we still judge. Be blessed...all of you!

Had the honor of going to a EW&F concert last year. Verdine White is one of the greatest bass players in history. Phil Bailey greatest pipes. It literally changed my life.
@SoundScientist1 Жыл бұрын
Verdine is undoubtedly a fabulous showman, but there's some question about whether Louis Satterfield actually performed bass on these recordings.
@markginsel4238 Жыл бұрын
@@SoundScientist1 Seriously? WOW! Never knew that. So was it possible Verdine was was fake playing at that concert? Not doubting you. Just curious.
@SoundScientist1 Жыл бұрын
@@markginsel4238. Verdine undoubtedly knows the EWF tunes really well at this point. So, I candidly don't know if there's a recorded bass track playing at concerts (or if the keyboardists help him on synth bass). The way this whole thing apparently developed is that there are a few recorded situations where Verdine made appearances with other top bassists (of our era) at jam sessions & master classes. In multiple instances, other well known bassists were quite skillfully showing off their mastery & artistry on the bass, while Verdine was fumbling & essentially sounded like a HS level bassist. I get the impression that it prompted folks in the "bass world" to start looking at Verdine a little funny. Here's one such appearance... Won tickets to see them in concert in California (Orange County). I will never forget it. My favorite band of all time. Reminds me of my childhood. Philip Bailey has the most smoothest beauty voice. Maurice White and Bailey's voice is in perfect synergy. When I read people say they are in tears watching this, I know exactly what they mean. The music from this era was so unique, awesome, and American treasure, and if you are old enough to remember, you'd realize what we have lost. Google bands from that era (and slightly earlier) like Sly and The Family Stone, and the Ohio Players, Parliament-Funkadelic, The Isley Brothers and be amazed.

In my opinion, what happened to the Black music scene is about where it came out of back then and where it comes from now. The difference is the Motown era talent came mostly out of the Black churches. Much of the new talent in the Black entertainment community comes out of the hood. There's a big difference in personal experience there and not for the good. Instead of expecting excellence as Barry Gordy did, the new talent agents accepted mediocrity and that's how we got where we are today.
