One of my favourite Turkish songs. Dates back to the Ottoman times. It’s original name is Kâtibim. She sang this song beautifully and her Turkish is not bad at all when reciting the lyrics. Eartha was truly a beautiful talented singer and performer. Her stage presence was majestic ❤️

Turkish not bad? You musn't be a fluent Turkish speaker since although Eartha Kitt may have a beautiful voice she absolutely butchered this song. If you want to hear the best version of this you cannot go past Safiye Ayla's version she has a stunning voice. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apemf2prmr-Ies0

@@quran-kuran7965 Mate as a Turk am fully aware of this song and the language it is sung in, and Kitt absolutely butchered this song. Safiye Ayla born 1907, grew up and sung this song in its original form since she was a child, she even sung this song to Ataturk in 1932 becoming his favourite singer of all time. You telling me a foreigner who cannot speak a word of Turkish sings a Turkish song better than a Turkish singer who grew up in an era this song was extremely popular... This same song exists in modern greek with the title "apo xeno tropo" (from a stranger place), and in many other languages. They did an anthropological documentary about all these versions, it's called "Whose is this song?". It's a very good film, I recommend it!

@elisaelisaross
@elisaelisaross 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielsmacere5931 Yes, and if I remember correctly, the Turkish song comes from a musical comedy where the protagonist is a clerk that is very lucky with women. Is that right? Maybe you even know the title of that musical? But I don't speak Turkish, therefore I don't know if here she is singing the same words like the original song or if she changed the words, no idea. Anyway, the documentary I mentioned talks exactly about this: this song exists in many countires in the East Europe, and every country says that they have the true original version and that the other countries only copied them to create their version. Also, in every country this song has a very important meaning, so the countries have disputes about who has the original version. I saw the documentary a lot of time ago, but I think this happens in these countries: Turkey, Greece, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania (but I am not sure). I mentioned the modern greek version because it is the only one in which I understand a few words and I know the title by heart (I don't speak any language from East Europe, unfortunately, but I study Ancient Greek)

Cool. I'm a heterosexual Male, but have had gay/bi friends. She said that she had mmf threesomes with James Dean and Paul Newman. On the regular. That doesn't make you bi. However, it's been documented that Dean and Newman were bi in the early '50's. Also, she slept with Marlon Brando then, who definitely slept with the top men and women of Hollywood in the '50's.
