Thank you! We’ve got the compost heating playlist and we will be sharing more on the compost heating system for this winter.

Thank you for making and sharing your videos about this!! What are the water//air pumps that you are using please? Also,I read somewhere that the compost heap has to be at least 4ft by 4ft by 4ft, to produce heat, is this right? (I have a small garden,so, if you know, please let me know also?) I'm used to squaring off the stable muck heap,to keep it tidy, but also to ensure it's doing a good job, of making good compost, I've also heard, that the ratio's of brown -greens is important for it, because I only have experience with the stables muck and straw, I don't think I know enough, for setting things up, on a smaller scale, with mostly kitchen scraps, leaves and grass cuttings that I collect locally. Any and all information is gratefully appreciated,TIA. Andrea and Critters. ...XxX....

Yes a pile should be at least 3.5feet around to create heat, and if you insulate that pile with leaves or grass you can get the entire pile to create heat as opposed to having an outer layer and inner layer. Great question and thanks for sharing!

Nice job with your setup this year!

Thanks man! It’s the best I could achieve for experimenting this year. I still have so many more ideas for this compost heating theory and wanna continue to progress for efficiency

I’m currently building a small greenhouse (6x13) against the south of the woodshed. My glazing is recycled patio door glass set to our winter solstice. Putting up a rock wall against the woodshed for a thermal battery and building a compost pile heater against the south wall. The theory of building the pile against the wall is insulation and a bit extra heat potentially.

That’s awesome and sounds like a good plan! So I have experimented with using extra poly to cover my pile in winter for the simple fact it created and generated more heat within the pile even on negative temp days(when the sun was out). Compost is great insulation that has its own heat while active, we’ve used straw bales and leaf bags from our local town to insulate our small greenhouse.

@ my compost pile is going to be made with manure from cattle trailers. Lots of straw. The ratio seems to be good, the heat in the pile is unreal, I haven’t put a thermometer in it but in negative temps it’s HOT inside. I can get as much as I want for free including delivery, just got a triaxle load this past Wednesday. 👍👍👍

@draganarc0131 that’s interesting, I may be able to do the same thing around here lol plenty of farmers. Thanks for sharing that! I bet it is hot! This huge pile we’ve got cooking is steaming in mid 20 degree weather, I can’t put my hand too far in without getting burnt lol

How much warmer would it be if you had the compost pile covered with a tarp and maybe a insulated blanket or at least a tarp.

A lot! Insulating the pile will give you much better results. Without any insulation value around it, part of the pile becomes the insulation and cools off as a crust
