Thanks so much for taking the time to explain how critical it is to trim pots at the appropriate dryness level. Most instructors skim over this step because they assume that students know this. They DON'T. It is the most important thing anyone can ever teach about ceramics, IMHO. I've been doing ceramics for 10 years and am having to learn and re-learn so many things. I spend much of my time viewing videos such as yours to pick up useful tips and tricks because most instructors don't really take the time to teach the basics. Kudos to you for your in-depth analysis!

I began wheel thrown pottery lessons in Feb of this year. I am not a natural. At all. Pre-Covid I'd had 9 lessons. I didn't want to lose the little progress I was making so at the start of our 'stay home' time I bought a wheel, some basic tools, and clay. I have been watching videos, trying various techniques, having fun, and making...things. This week I FOUND EARTH NATION CERAMICS. Thank you for these videos. Thank you thank you thank you thank you. By the time this is all over, I am going to end up with a garage full of bone-dry pots that may actually be worth keeping. I guess I'll have to figure out what comes next at that point - but until then I will work work work on throwing & trimming - with your help. And if I didn't say it before...thank you thank you thank you!

it's been about ten years since my ceramics class and I'm still watching these videos. Fun fact, I was the kid who (didn't steal) but was offered a bowl, all I had to do was trim it. I didn't do a good job lol. I put two rings at the bottom and that was my foot. Luckily no glaze ran onto the bottom.

I'm actually more at an intermediate level at wheel throwing, but I checked this out because I want to learn how to tap center. However, you just do it so quickly, like my instructor when he does it, that I can't quite grasp how to do it. I guess it just takes a lot of practice. I'm glad that there are other methods to fall back on like using the pencil.

Thank you, your classes are so so helpful! One bit of info I am missing as a beginner is drying. How best to achieve the leather state? What is the actual profess after you take it off the wheel? How long to wait until you wrap it? How to wrap it? For how long? Plastic or cloth? Wooden board or a plastic board? Baking paper? Leave a gap for the air or not? I know many things will depend on the air temperature but a general indication would be very very handy!

Your lesson so fun and not bored at all. But the problem is , it's so fun that I almost forget I have my clay laying around too long. My routine: Take all my clay, tools and tray, find your video and watch to warm up, then to another video and another and another. By the time I think I'm ready, it's time to sleep. My clay waiting there 500 years.
