Honestly Persona 3’s ending was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The hour long boss fight leading to you hearing all your maxed links saying encouraging shit to power you up, only to then be powered up by your teammates and shinjiro, was one of the most memorable moments I’ve had in gaming.

The follow up though, that stings. Every maxed link can be spoke to, and all of them either hope to see you again or notice you look "pale" or "unwell". It looks like you saved everyone but it's only your will keeping you around just a little longer, and the last time you see your friends is as you pass out on the roof after they finally remember the promise, as you tell Aegis it'll be okay or not to cry. The relief of your victory gets slowly overtaken as you watch everyone unknowingly make plans with a dead man walking. It stabs you in the gut and twists hard. Also, please note I said "pass out". He falls comatose on the roof, he dies later in his dorm room after they take him there. Official cause of death is ruled as "death by exhaustion". Doctors thought he died from overexertion.

I don't know. Meguro, the man himself doesn't seem to think so. His favourite Atlus track period is the Tokyo Overworld Theme from Shin Megami Tensei IV. He's probably just being humble (he didn't compose for SMT IV), but that's the gold standard to beat for him. Funnily enough, he even got to do a remix of it for the 25th Anniversary Concert. Sounds right like it'd belong in P5. Strongly recommend you give it a listen.
