I grew up in 3rd.Ward ,Houston Texas,in the 70’s ,and these guys were sooo ahead of their time !!,and they still are!’theur music is timeless ,and every song has its own memory !! I a white boy who loved not only all forms of black music but I love the black nation !! I grew up with all my friends and girlfriends black and i would not trade it for anything!!’ I see the world so differently than most white peoples!I was there with my brothers in the 70’s growing up and we were all connected !there was no such thing as this racsist stuff! We loved and respected one another!! And as fate would have it ,I fell inlove with a beautiful Nubian princess whose name is Angelia Denise Gordon!,I first seen her in 1980,at our little church!,and I was inlove at first sight! And now we’re both in our 60’s,we reconnected on September 2nd.,2023,and now we will be married soon!!’she is heaven on earth!and God made a way for us to be together when, there seem to be no way!!!thank you Lord! And thank you also for Earth Wind and Fire and the great soul awakening their music brought to our lives and world!!’

When I was 15 I had a bus driver named Phyllis, heavyset middle age African American grandma, I was usually the last one on the bus and I’d move to the front of the bus to talk to her. She loved to sing this song and she told me everything you need to know about life is contained in this song. I’ve had many angels touch my life, chokes me up to know she’s no longer here, but her words live on, as I pass them to you.

It staggers me when young people today tell me they don't know who EW&F are! They have now been playing for 50 years and have sold more records than ANY other American band. When I graduated college in December of '69 in Philly, most of my old bandmates had moved to Denver & were both playing in a studio & going out on weekends to play the clubs & ski resorts. Each year they would pick a different name for their "band." My best friend, a guitar player known then as Zike (real name withheld to protect the guilty), invited me out to join the crew in the studio & at the clubs. When I got there, I met their awesome lead singer, Phil, who had joined them at age 19, right out of high school in Aurora, CO. We played in the studio & on the road for 2 and a half years & caught the attention of Atlantic Records. They offered, based primarily on Phil's extraordinary voice with his 4-octave range. About 6 weeks before we were to fly to Manhattan & record for Bearsville Records (a subsidiary of Atlantic), Phil got a call from L.A. The guy said he had seen us at Tulagi's on the hill in Boulder (we were calling ourselves "Friends & Love" that year). He was starting a new band & said he wanted himself & Phil to be the singers & frontmen. Phil, who was about 21 by then, told him he couldn't afford to fly out to L.A. for an audition. The guy told him that hearing him the week before was his audition & if he wanted the job, it was his. He pre-paid 2 tickets from the old Stapleton Airport to L.A., told him to find a good entertainment lawyer & they'd talk contract. The guy in L.A. was named Maurice White, Phil's last name was Bailey & the band they were starting was called Earth, Wind & Fire. That was the end of our offer to record, alas. I kept in touch with Phil for decades & he would always arrange to get my wife and me 2 comped front-row tickets & backstage passes every time they played a town we were living in (truth be told, I blackmailed Phil by saying I'd release some old master tapes I had of Phil & the rest of us doing jingles for various banks & businesses in the Denver area if he didn't come through with the tickets). Playing with even the young Phil, as he was putting together his chops was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Hearts of fire creates love desire Take you high and higher to the world you belong Hearts of fire creates love desire High and higher to your place on the throne We've come together on this special day To sing our message loud and clear Looking back we've touched on sorrowful days Future pass, they disappear You will find peace of mind If you look way down in your heart and soul I don't hesitate 'cause the world seems cold Stay young at heart 'cause you're never (never, never, ..) old at heart That's the way of the world Plant your flower and you grow a pearl A child is born with a heart of gold The way of the world makes his heart grow cold

One of the baddest bands on the planet. Their catalog is insane. One of my dreams is to see them in concert. Even though Maurice White is no longer with them his legacy still carries on. Their music is timeless. They are exceptional. Reasons, Love's Holiday, Be Ever Wonderful, September, etc..... Are just few of the hits. Between them and the other band the Isley Brothers there isn't a band or group that can touch them . Did hear what I said not a group out there that can touch them or even come close. Enough Said!!!??

I was fortunate to see them live in Omaha Nebraska in 1990. If you think their recordings are great, you ain't heard nothing until you hear them live! That tight brass section was SO amazing (I'm a sax player myself), their harmonies were so spot on, Phil Bailey's falsettos soared, and I don't think anyone sat down during the entire performance at the theater!
