I know this is supposed to be depressing, but imagine at the end the voice came on one final time telling everyone that Canadian North American civilization has been mostly destroyed, that most are dead and that the few left are freezing and starving. But you're still alive, it keeps on encouraging to keep fighting to survive not just for your country, but for humanity. That despite the situation being immensely grim, you can make it past the finish line. That your entire ancestry has collectively survived through hellish conditions time and time again and if they can do that, you can survive one more day.

Excellent work, there! Keep it up! It's cool with an actual person speaking and asking for help, giving it a nice mood and a sense of eerieness to it. I will add extra points for the last broadcast being done in both English and French. I still await an EAS scenario with English-broadcasted alerts taking place in either Nigeria, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, The Philippines, Cyprus, Ghana, Kenya, Singapore, Lebanon, UAE, Greece, The Netherlands, or Germany. The last three, and also Pakistan are mentioned because a large percentage of people there can speak English. Over half of Pakistan's population can speak it. In India, over 125 million people can speak English there, compared to The Philippines' 64 million English speakers, so that's why I'm awaiting an EAS scenario in either Nigeria, Pakistan, or India. Lastly, nearly 180 million people in Nigeria speak English.

Although this seems to take after the unrealistic scenario from "The Day After Tomorrow," this was an interesting video to say the least. I've always been fascinated with how dramatically the climate has varied over the last 20,000 years. While a long time (on a human timescale), it's crazy to think that the Laurentide Ice Sheet practically disappeared in just a few millennia, with the most substantial retreat taking place from 14,000 years ago until 8,000 years ago. Note that the Laurentide Ice Sheet did persist in some areas well into the Holocene (our current interglacial), especially around Hudson Bay and northern Québec. In terms of length of time on a human timescale, this period of most substantial retreat is similar to the length of time between the first human civilizations and the present time. If human civilization had developed towards the end of the last glacial period (rather than during the Holocene), such changes would not go unnoticed. Even in the absence of civilizations, there are cultures with strong storytelling traditions that have passed down stories for many millennia with a fair degree of accuracy. Case in point: some aboriginal Australian stories date back to the end of the last glacial period, telling of times where sea levels were lower, and of times when sea levels rose: www.scientificamerican.com/article/ancient-sea-rise-tale-told-accurately-for-10-000-years/ On another note, northern Québec and Labrador are actually ideal regions for the nucleation of the next Laurentide Ice Sheet, although such an event would take place at a (need I say it?) glacial pace. We would first need a cooling climate for something like this to happen, however. It takes longer to go from interglacial conditions to glacial maximum conditions (around 90,000 years) than it does to go from a glacial maximum to an interglacial (10,000 years); the climate history demonstrates that glacial maxima tend to occur towards the end of the glacial period. Within a glacial period, interstadial (warmer)/stadial (cold) cycles also seem to involve more abrupt warming with a gradual cooling: www.nature.com/scitable/knowledge/library/abrupt-climate-change-during-the-last-ice-24288097/ Although sudden climate changes can and do take place (consider both the start and end of the Younger Dryas, with a very abrupt cooling at the beginning and a very abrupt warming at the end), the overall long-term patterns show a gradual cooling with a more rapid warming. It is these abrupt climate changes, regardless of whether it is abrupt warming or abrupt cooling, that we have to worry about. I do wonder if agriculture and/or human civilization could have developed earlier what that might have looked like; agriculture first developed during the early Holocene and the first civilizations appeared during the mid-Holocene. I wonder if climatic instability might have precluded the development of agriculture prior to the start of the Holocene? The end of the last glacial period would have been a very unstable climate, although I wonder if this would actually be a factor when you consider human timescales (abrupt climate change would be devastating if you were unlucky enough to experience it in your lifetime).

Well, given that they say in this broadcast that such snowfalls were first registered in Europe... Can it be a result of a thermonuclear war and consequent nuclear winter? If such event would happen, Canada should be barely affected by it... Initially.

@@disketa25 I have to agree, this seems to be the result of a nuclear war creating a nuclear winter, although more severe than a nuclear winter ought to be.., but then I've only studied nuclear winter in the US.
