Let me preface this with how great this video is - it is short, detailed and easy to follow. The machine does actually work. However, I wanted to leave my findings from my own expierences, maybe someone has a better solution - this is just my notes. For anyone saying that they arent getting the full 12 piece yield. Version 1.1.8 Places where I built these: FTB Endeavor, Dire Wolf, Java 1.18 etc. Soul sand doesn't work for me. I tried other blocks at least 20 of them and it did the same thing, not all the help made it and it would despawn before more kelp grew. The machine works as intended and it will yield a 7/12 ratio, which is decent if you are willing to overlook the 5 pieces lost due to despawn. I have tried placing water on the pistons themselves to create water source blocks, however the pistons will take those out when the kelp is harvested so back to square one. I have tried not having a roof on it - Dont unless you like glowing squid or other things dropping into your machine. I did replace the roof with glass to allow more light - it showed some promise in growth depends on the world seed more than anything Soul Sand tips did not work still left with the same problem. I did remove and replace the water - again same result the kelp will sometimes not go to the right side unless new kelp growth pushes the pieces before they despawn. I then built a structure, with an interior size of 8 blocks by 8 blocks, 4 blocks high. with outer chamber, placed a safety ladder on the inside with a way to get out. The chamber creates an air pocket in the wall at the base, planted the kelp on sand - not only did it grow faster - but I got a higher yield. Its manual labor but easy to get in cut the kelp and get out, you have two ways to get air swim up to the ledge of the fourth block or dive down into the air pocket where the entrance is both work fine. While my system is not automated, I can assure you its a higher yield and I got all the kelp pieces as well as it took less than a minute to harvest it and throw it in the chest in the base - you can expand the ante chamber to house a smelting system if you so wish. I am currently reverse engineering what my husband made and its not looking bad. Also note it was easier to build my structure using Stone for Stone Bricks and Sand for Glass and Oak for the wood, easy to farm. Good luck everyone and may the roads you travel be paved with brightest of blessings - may your worries be few. Stay safe out there.

@@arstulex Is there a fix for this? I'll keep working on it from my end to see if it can be fixed
@arstulex2 жыл бұрын
@@tiffanysalling4272 Okay, so... The farm in the video does kinda work BUT it relies on the kelp growing back into the now-flowing water blocks to turn them into source blocks again. This is obviously not ideal for 2 reasons: 1. Because there is only a single row of water, almost all of them will need to be turned to source blocks individually by their respective kelp growing up into them. There's no point where the source blocks 'cascade' and turn all the others into source blocks. 2. This can obviously take a while to happen, meaning kelp that's trapped in the water will despawn. Fortunately, there are methods I have found to fix this... Basically, you want to mirror this farm so you have two of them facing each other. This means you now have a 2x6 row of water instead of the video's 1x6. This already helps massively because it means the water can self-correct much faster after only a few kelp has grown. You can also add an extra source block to each row on the back of the farm. These source blocks will not be affected by the pistons and will greatly help the water self-correct. These modifications help because both rows of pistons operate separately from eachother. So when one row 'fires' the other row of water sources are still intact. The two extra source blocks at the end of the rows now form the classic L shape with the intact row, which then cascades down the 'damaged' row and regenerates all of its source blocks. Hopefully I've explained that well.
@evanpb9 ай бұрын
this is a great design! one thing i might consider doing so that you get all the XP from your dried kelp is have it go into a chest and then a furnace, with nothing coming out of the furnace. that way you cook a stack at a time and the excess goes into the chest. when you pull out the cooked stack, you'll get the xp and then the chest will automatically drop another stack of kelp into the furnace. i think you could even have a double chest empty into 2 furnaces, so you can burn 2 stacks at a time.
@sisterspot1113 жыл бұрын
Ok wow that was a lot easier than I thought. Honestly putting this design inside a big 3D TNT art. Make use of your builds to the max lol
@tiaxanderson97253 жыл бұрын
I re-made this in the latest Java release; 1.17.1 and every time the pistons break the kelp the water turns back into flowing water rather than source blocks. Which stops them from floating up. Even after getting a bunch of buckets and placing water directly at each block and checking with F3 if the block is flowing water or just water; one piston movement further and it breaks. Now, if you make the farm as done here; everything should still work. The kelp just won't flow to the top and instead flow along the bottom (you may even be able to leave out the top layer, I haven't tested that). But if, like me, you accidentally dug out 1 row too far and decided to have a single block wall separate the kelp from the hopper you will be in for a bad time. It was an easy fix though.

@themanidentifiedasdinosaur81383 жыл бұрын
Recently, I learned about minecarts and you can actually do one more step further in this for it to 100% fully make dried kelp on its own. What you need is, instead of a chest, you make a minecart chest on a powered rail powered by a lever, redstone torch, etc. Then, place a hopper to the side of the furnace for the fuel. That rail should then go up to the side of the furnace up the fuel hopper. What this does is after the kelp has been dried, the minecart chest then gets it and put it in as a fuel for the same furnace. So if you need dried kelp for other furnace, you can get it on the minecart chest or the fuel hopper. Minecarts and rails are real efficient instead of using multiple hoppers or hopper pipe. Saves you lots of materials since you mostly use gold for the rail and gold are renewable via nether XP farm.
