Wow! Just found this and I am amazed and so glad to see this. For years I have been puzzled by pattern making. It seemed to be a big secret among the seamstresses that I met. I can sew basic items, but patterns have been a pet peeve. For me it is easier to learn alterations if I understand the basic pattern composition. Why a dart line is where it is; why the taper is here not there; what curvature is the waist; etc etc Maybe it is my drafting experience in building trades construction, but I like to know why and how the cloth is cut here and not here lol. Anyway long rambling post to say thank you very much!!

Thanks for the video. If you also have bodice pattern, can you join them directly and form a dress. Or will you need adjustments on the waist?

Place your tape on your waist to hip and count how many inches or some persons use 8inches while others use 9inches

Hi Bilikis, thanks so much for the lesson and I hope you will be fast to answer me. I need the hip curved ruler, the chalk pk and the Neckline ruler. How do I get that?

My problem is with marking. When the fabric is folded, I will draw along the stitch line, but its not the same in the other side. So one side is stiched perfectly and the other side is loose.
@AveCaesar20254 жыл бұрын
My mother would tack/baste along the sewing line using loose stitches. You then open the fabric slightly and cut through the stitches between both layers of fabric and pull apart. You are left with pieces of cotton thread marking the sewing line, and just see over them. This is the method they used to teach when mum was at school 80 years ago, it is used by tailors and professional dressmakers still today. Takes slightly longer but always works. Can be used for darts, pleats, anything you need to mark on two pieces of fabric the same, and you can't always use chalk or marking pens on all fabrics either. Hope this helps.
