We have been installing these for years (stops the kids getting at the goodies!) A much more economical for those whose don't have all the expensive tools, just buy and use a Spade Bit and Drill. 3/4 Spade usually does the trick ~ just make sure the barrel on the Cabinet Lock is the same width as the Spade Bit. PS, don't forget those safety glasses! ;~)

Thank you for this video. I followed your instructions for the measurements and it came out near perfect! I used a wood boring bit...mainly 'cause I was being cheap. If I had to do it again, I'd use the forstner bit you suggest. My advice to anyone doing this is measure, measure, measure; then try it on a scrap piece of wood; and finally take your time! Don't rush, super important. Thanks again!

Thank you for this... I am a very basic/simple DIY'er and I was thinking this would need some kind of template tool which probably wouldn't be cheap etc. This makes my looming task look so much simpler. Oddly enough I bought a range of forstner bits a few months ago to countersink some dolly wheels into timber. So I already have everything I need!

How do you cut that onto a door that's already fitted in place, without removing the door???
@CNTHINGS Жыл бұрын
The same way should work. The other option is to drill a hole at one line. Cut a piece of a dowel or any piece of wood that will fit in the hole you just drilled to catch the point of the forstner bit. And drill the second hole to the same depth. Hopefully that helps

Now why did I find this video after I drilled the hole?! 🤠

why not just go slightly oversized drill hole then use a washer with a big enough inner diameter to go over the lock before you insert the lock from inside out so that nut has something to tighten down to?
@CNTHINGS3 жыл бұрын
The elongated hole doesn't allow the lock to spin like an oversized hole would.

Are you kidding me? You're totally over complicating installing a cam lock just drill the hole the size of the lock (5/8ths 9/16ths or whatever) and use the spur washer that's designed to hold it in place.
@CNTHINGS4 жыл бұрын
A spur washer is a great choice for larger pieces. But in small pieces where you don't want a big ugly washer on the back, or the wood won't hold a washer, the extra couple minutes really make this method worth it. And it will never get loose or wear out like a spur washer can. Great suggestion though.

Couldn't agree more. This was a bit much for such a simple task.

Test kitchen cam lock. Look in the real world the cabinets are already installed. You have to stand on a ladder to to get above the refrigerator and you have to use a drill not a drill press , and no your not going to remove the cabinet doors and take then back to the shop to press them.
@CNTHINGS3 жыл бұрын
That totally makes sense if you're not building the cabinets yourself. In that case you could just make a jig to use the same technique with a hand drill.

@@CNTHINGS Thanks for the jig idea. It's a simple/great idea I was overlooking.
