EASIEST FIX! Sliding door won’t open - Honda Odyssey

This is the EASIEST FIX for your Honda Odyssey driver’s side sliding door not opening. The likely reason is the sensor popped out and so the car “thinks” the gas door is open so it won’t let you open the sliding door. I’ve seen mechanics taking the entire interior siding off, cut things, etc. this will take you less than 5 mins to access the broken part.

Thanks! My '08 Odyssey was exhibiting the same symptoms: Upon manual unlock, door immediately locked itself; attempt to open door gave beep-beep-beep. Turn door switch on dashboard to "off", door could be opened & closed manually (with muscle), but still beep-beep-beep. However, the problem in my case was: missing plastic piece (on fuel door) that pushes down the sensor plunger/button. For 2005-2010 Odyssey, part number 74391-S0X-A01. Well under $10 to get part from Honda dealer. Whew.

This video was spot on. Thank you! It solved my problem on my 2010 Odyssey and took all of 30 mins - no kidding. My problem was that left slide door did not open nor did the fuel door. I tried some tips from other videos once I had my son pop out the speaker. We tested the sensor, which had become displaced and a piece had broken off. This was the problem. We were able to reset the sensor properly and both problems were solved. Thanks for the part number from Schmidt. We will purchase that part and follow these simple steps to make a final replacement. Fantastic tip getting to the part via the speaker.

Preciate the visual. I didn't have to take anything off, but did tie the fact that I had just gotten gas prior to this issue popping up. Door was working fine hours before, but I did get the gas right before discovering it. So I opened the gas door, double checked the cap, and closed everything back. Tested the door, and magically it was back to functioning correctly. Definitely appreciate that. I had no idea that the driver sliding door was in any way tied to the gas door.

Thaks for this video. I have a 2004 Honda odyssey, same issue with door not opening. The fix in my situation was the foot plastic on the bottom of the door. I guess it had come up and was causing issues with the automatic door. I opened the door manually by turning off the automatic feature and pulling it open, then popping off the floor plastic.

It won’t open even when you try to open it manually? Will it unlock? If it won’t unlock (it keeps locking by itself immediately after you unlock it) then it’s probably the same issue. But if it’s unlocked and still won’t open, no, I don’t think it would be this same issue. But I’m not an expert. Hope you get it figured out!

@@eliasfairfield7859 it unlocks and locks normal. I was able to reset it a few times by unplugging fuse #7 and started working then problem comes back. Done this a few times and now it the door just stuck no matter what I do. Reset stops working

Couldn't tell from video where the sensor you said fell out should go. Where should it be reattached?

Hey @jim causey - there's a round hole it fell out of. I think the easiest way to see it would be to pop the gas door and look from that angle. You should be able to look a bit behind and up from the gas cap and see the hole there. Hope that helps!

Wow! Honda did it again... In my 2005 Odyssey both power doors weren't working. At least I fixed my passenger-side door. I mean I think I fixed it. The driver-side won't open. I'll try to reset doors soon and also check the gas cap compartment. I hope there is a visible tab there. Anyway, did you fix it by purchasing a new sensor or there are exactly the same tabs on the market? I see aftermarket support is mostly available for parts that commonly fail like suspension parts etc. I purchased door bumpers on Amazon for $10 and it fixed my passenger-side door at least for now...

BundysGarage true. And I should have clarified that you can’t replace the part this method. But if it simply popped out and you need to pop it back in, this is the best method. This is a 2005.

What part don’t you see? The cable and mechanism at the end? 2 thoughts would be: 1) you might need to fish for it a bit as it might have fallen down. 2) they might have designed the 2002 differently. Hope you’re able to figure it out!

Hi I just fixed the Odyssey 2008 Driver side Power sliding door. When you open the sliding door 3 beeps and nothing happens and the door just closes, unable to clock or unlock, all other doors working fine. The issue is the cable DOOR STOPPER SENSOR. It was very simple to fix it,Just took me 15 minute to fix it. How did I do it? I open the speaker cover on back driver side, Use the plastic tools took about 1or 2 minutes take the speaker out Open 3 screws of speaker push the latch of cable and remove the speaker out so we have room to work Twist the cable and full up the to the place of the speaker and inspect it My cable broke at the end of the part that just took out ,that is why when the gas door closed but the sensor did not work the computer thought the gas window was open so it disable to that door. I used the metal wire to tighten on the broken part out the wire back to the body so it can hold the wire inside able to move to the sensor. Then I test it work right away What is the reason I thought the cable sensor was bad? Before taking the gas from Costco it worked fine, Then I remember I did a bad thing during pumping the gas. Instead of get in line to the side of gas door but when I saw the other land open, then I moved to that land it opposite with my gas door then move the gas line over top then to gas window put the gas tank, it hit so hard during I went to select the gas. That is why it damages my DOOR STOPPER SENSOR. So that is my lesson, don't do it next time.
