No WONDER I've had such dismal results from the majority of the bait retrievers I've tried! More often than not, I'd just wind up losing it AND the lure I was trying to get unstuck. But...I was putting then directly on the snagged line with no additional line or rod. Your way makes tons more sense...soooo, thanks!! ✊

Great stuff, the lure retriever idea is great, thought about that every time I had to untangle my line

I have a pack of 1/2 oz Gamakatsu football heads and some hula grubs but never used them. After watching this, I decided to try them and caught 2 bass today Flippin docks. Very easy to set hook compared to other jigs. Would have used it more but the reaction bite was on fire
@TheAverageAnglerАй бұрын
Yeah if the reaction bite is on it can be tough to fish a jig. Now ya know though for days ahead.

Great tips. I like the broken rod and reel retriever. I have been using the 18’ foot long extension pole retriever for my deep crankbaits. I will try out the your tip. Those Gamakatsu grubs are the best. I have lots of them. I need to dig them back out and fish with them again. I do like using jig heads that have the weed guard for convenience, but know the weed guard must lower my hook up and catch ratio.

The 18ft pole is tough to beat for crank baits. The method I showed works great for most other baits like jigs and such. There is definitely a time and place for weed guards, but I will typically use a standard football jig when I need it and use these where I don’t. Occasionally I fish these with a weed guard. Thanks for watching.

Love the straight forward approach on all the videos and love the FBD hat! I agree, learned jig fishing on a 4” hula grub green pumpkin on the desert rivers. Still my go to. I have a question, that color of that “baby brush hog”. What was that color? And is that an actual baby brush hog or different brand? Thank you in advance!
@TheAverageAnglerАй бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. That is actually a Reaction Innovations Man Bear Pig in the color payback.

You should do a video about line twist on a Chad Chad what could be that problem for me?
@TheAverageAnglerАй бұрын
I be happy to help but what is a Chad Chad and I what kind of rod and reels are you throwing it on?

No disrespect intended but I'm 63 and have fished for bass since I was 8/9 and have NEVER caught ANY fish on a jig. I don't consider a ball head and grub a jig. I'm talking about a jig and sjirt with any type of trailer. I've fished the east coast, spent most time in the Great Lakes and now live in Florida....again, never caught a fish on one nor can I remember even getting bit one.

Well I don’t find that unusual. I think many don’t have confidence it a jig. Crayfish are a staple food source in most bodies of water. A jig best resembles a crawfish. There are many other baits that also resemble a crawfish, many creature baits have that profile. I got confidence many years ago and have caught thousands of fish on a jig with a skirt. By the way the hula grub I showed does have a skirt. My largest bass, a 12.8 lb giant came on a jig with a double tail grub on the back. So my question is, have you fished a jig much? It is often confidence that leads us to success and sometimes we need to learn or get confidence by watching someone have success with a bait.

Wow I'm 68 and caught 100s of bass on a jig.

Hard to get bit on a dry jig.....and a ball head jig is a jig.
