Ditch those roof mount AC and go with a mini split power difference is crazy. As well as the Fridge freezer

The eterna bond did not handle the heat well. At 85 degrees the adhesive became soft and my panel flew off at 80mph. The panel held up though!

I considered flex panels. More expensive, shorter life and heat generator for the roof. Too many minuses for my overland trailer with no AC. I ended up with three 100W Rich Solar slim panels mounted with 1 1/2" air space from aluminum rack to rubber roof.

I keep my trailer in the shop 24/7.. So panels are only used when camping. I agree if your in sun all the time I would go solid panel

Those panels probably wont last long because of heat being mounted flat to the roof. Plus the added massive heat to your rubber roof membrane will probay cause the adhesive to let loose of the wood substrate. As a side note the hotter the panel the less efficient they are as well longterm.

One person had it short and burn their roof membrane… I think I would stick with the regular panels!

when parked outside, if trailer is not pitched/angled carefully: the solar panels, like a sail/pocket, will collect rain water

the rooftop will collect water. rv rooftop are notoriously not waterproof. you want to shed water always

Hi mate thanks for this video. How many years do you think these panels will last? I've seen videos where they indicate max 5 years. That can't be true, right? What do you think?

We have had thin film panels on our shed in our back yard 24/7 for over 3 yrs now, they are all holding up great. We have them mounted with an air gap behind the panels. We put them in as our whole house emergency backup system for our home, ( instead of buying a $12,000 dollar whole house generator). Living in south Florida, we get hurricanes and lose grid for a couple weeks at a time. I designed the whole works so it can all be pulled down and put in the garage when a hurricane is a coming, then after it passes we put them back up, ( takes around 10 minutes). The system sits idle 99% of the time, so we sometimes steal the system and place in our rv, if we want to boondock, ( which is only once or twice a year). We use temporary mounts on the rv, and don’t leave the panels on the roof when not boondocking. I’m happy with thin film panels, who would want 500 to 800 lbs of extra weight 13 feet in the air on an already tipsy motorhome, not me. Our main home has 30 residential panels on the roof, each panel is the size of a bed and each weighs 60-80 lbs, (not including the racking). That’s over 2000 lbs of panels. No way do I want anything like that on our motorhome, ( just sayin).

Can you run one ac in the Texas heat in July off grid ? Been thinking to add some to the motor home just to keep the fridge running , thanks for the videos
@RockyRohde
@RockyRohde Жыл бұрын
The solar provides 500-600 watts. The truck when plugged in will provide an additional 200 watts. The 15k btu ac pulls about 1100 watts. I plan to add 6 more panels and one more battery. The system in the sun as built will run the AC for about 7 hrs depleting the one battery with help from 3 solar panels. My goal is to run ac during the night with no generator. The system now will prob do that as the ac comp will cycle at night. The fridge and lighting can be ran all day and night with no issues.

You mounted the flex panels very poorly on the roof. The panels will overheat and die early. Flex panels already have a shorter lifespan. The roof will overheat with that black panel drawing in heat (roof WAS white before) and glue will come off the rubber roof and rubber will degrade. Not smart. Also, you domed the panels and you created cracks - they are supposed to lay flat. Mount the panels to an aluminum tubular frame and mount that to a roof rack. Now you can easily remove panels, they will not overheat, and you keep your roof cool under the shade of the panels and with less damage.

Agree with your comment… My RV is stored indoors and used for trips… On RVs that sit out in the sun 24/7 they should be elevated.. for me these will last fine
