Thanks so much, Susan! I was considering buying canvas at a fabric store (I sew a lot). I never even thought to use painting tarp! I also was dreading trying to measure and sew a cover. The pipe insulation is so fanastic. I am going to Home Depot tomorrow. For folks who are artistic, I could see them using fabric paint to make a beautiful design on the fabric as well. I am not a good artist but the gears are turning in my creative head as to an embroidery pattern I could put on it.

Loved your video! I like the function of our sofa in our 18' camper, but hate the plastic fake leather cover. My husband took it out tonight because I wanted to figure out how to reupholster it. When I looked at it, I think it's too complicated for me to recover. The foam pipe idea of yours is the key here. I have been using a cushy bedspread fabric so far on top of it. It does come out at times, but I have also used a floor mat, the one that is used to keep rugs from slipping on wood floors. That has worked well to keep it in place on top of the plastic fake leather. I have also used queen pillows at both ends, because our sofa is not as wide as the space it's in. That also works. We have also put rolling shelves under the sofa, because our sofa is heavy for me to pull up and we need all of the storage we can get in our small camper. Hope this helps others, as you have done for me.

Your ideas are wonderful!! And I’m so glad my foamy tube idea has been a help. Sadly, this trailer in which I filmed this cover idea was stolen back in October. The trailer was all packed in case we’d be able to hit the road this spring on our annual trip south, so not only did we lose our beloved RV, we lost a ton of gear, clothing...everything inside. I’d finally found the perfect cover for the couch too, a lovely embroidered cream bedspread I had bought years before and hadn’t used for years. So mad and upset 😡 Happily, it was insured and we’ve been able to purchase a new-to-us trailer that I’m dying to get stuck in to redecorating!! All the best in 2021 to you and your family!

Yay! That’s so exciting!! Yes, a drop cloth works great! You can wash them to soften them up a bit too. They are also dyeable if you wanted a different colour. We’ll be looking for a ‘new to us’ travel trailer this spring as the one this video was filmed in was stolen from where we had it stored for the winter, under a month ago. We are so angry, as we have now lost our lovely trailer as well as all our possessions that were in it. But, I keep reminding myself that it was just ‘things’ and all can be replaced. About how many yards of fabric would you say you used for the Outdoor Fabric option you showed? Trying to locate some cheap fabric and wondering how much I would roughly need 😊
@HoneyandMe7 ай бұрын
Hi Chelsea! Thanks for the question😁I wish I could go out and measure it for you but sadly, this trailer was stolen 3 years ago, along with the sofa and the various covers🙁. BUT… I can explain how to figure out how much fabric you need. The outdoor fabric probably won’t be wide enough to cover the back and seat without using 2 lengths, so to figure out how much you’ll need measure the width of the sofa you want to cover and add on the amount extra to cover both sides as far as you’ll need so they can be tucked in and stay tucked in. If you are covering a regular sofa you can use the same foam tubes tucked into the sides to keep the edges there anchored. You will need 2 lengths of this measurement to cover the back and seat, overlapping at the crevice where they meet. I hope this explains it. Use a piece of string or ribbon to measure and then measure that with a measuring tape. I find this works quite well. Lmk if you need any further help!-Sue❤

Sorry, no I don't. I do have a new sofa in our 'new to us' trailer that I need to figure out a way to cover and will make a video about it when I get it figured out. I can't use this method on it as there is no 'tucking' space between the seat and back. It does have arms though. You can try using the foam tubes along the sides as well as the back on your love seat to anchor the cover in place.

The video is here...kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqm0ZqGLhq5jb9E . My jackknife sofa had a framed base, so I made 2 sofa sized cushions to replace the sofa. Worked wonderfully in my situation. If yours is like mine in the trailer, without a framed base, it would be very simple to construct a ‘box’ like mine in Honey to set the new sofa cushions on. Hope this helps!

Hi Loraine! The drop cloth I used in this video is a 9 x 12 foot one. The brand was Everbilt and I got it at Home Depot. That's Canada, mind you, so not sure if they carry the same brands in the US. I was able to pick that seam and have 2 more than large enough covers. Not sure if you follow my channel, but this particular trailer was stolen almost 2 years ago along with my favourite cover for the sofa. It was a beautiful beige quilted bedspread that I'd been keeping for something special. Sadly, when we (not the police) located the trailer almost 1 /12 years after it was stolen, the thief had sold most of our things from inside (which were not insured) and my bedspread, along with so many other things I valued were not in it. We now have a new to us trailer bought with the insurance money that I am in the process of redecorating. The sofa in it is butt ugly!! And way too small for anyone but a kid to sleep on. Plus, it doesn't have the nice deep crevice in between the two cushions to stuff that tube into. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. I miss my old trailer, and the sofa! Best of luck with your project and thanks for watching!- Sue

Omg I liked the white bedspread, what size was it?
@HoneyandMe Жыл бұрын
The white one was an IKEA bedspread, double or full size. I know I bought as a ‘ now or never ‘ sale item which means they no longer carry them😢. But, if it’s any help, it was made out of a heavy muslin fabric. The drop cloth version was much heavier and less pliable until I’d washed it, so that might be another option. Sadly, my personal favourite was a beautiful bedspread that was embroidered, but all one off white colour. It was on the sofa when some scum-bag stole our trailer.🤬Im now trying to come up with a new version of this cover for our new to us trailer that has a different sofa design. The original version in this video works so well, but won’t work on the new trailer sofa😢. Anyways… hope you find something to suit you!

Can this work for a recliner chair that uses a lever to recline back? There are arms and three areas for tucking (back to seat,and each arm).
@HoneyandMe2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for asking! I think this would work with a recliner and any chair that has space for tucking a foam tube into. You might need a narrower tube, depending on the space in the ‘tucking’ area. Check the hardware stores for foam covering for water pipes as they do come in different sizes. Good luck!😁

At the top of my jackknife sofa is a gap between the wall and sofa. Any recommendations how to ensure the cover stays on? There is no tight space to keep it tucked in.

I'd try sticking one of the foam tubes down the back of your sofa as well. Depending on how much space there is, you can get one that will fit tightly (Possibly a pool noodle if you need a bigger size than Home Depot sells.) If you seat back tilts back from the pivot point of the sofa seat and back, it will probably open up wider the further down you go from the top of the back. If the roam roll wants to slide down into the wider area, you could sew a channel into the top of whatever it is you use to cover the sofa with. Then insert the tube into the channel. You'll want to make the channel wide enough so you can remove the tube for laundering the cover. Hope that helps. I'd love to know if you try these ideas and how they work.-Sue

Mine has a gap, too! So I'm planning, after discovering this video, to see if I'm able to lift the back of the sofa at all. If so, I'll use extra long fabric so that I can wrap it down the back and tuck it under the sofa from the back side, as well.

I use a sheet garter clasped to the cover on each side, on an angle at the corners from the back to the side, to keep fabric from coming off the back of the sofa and at the bottom corners as well. They are inexpensive, come in a package of 4 and available at Walmart and Amazon.

I have no idea why RV companies employ people with bad taste. It's one of life's many mysteries. Lol! Thanks for watching, Holly!
