No welding, no special tools, just simplicity!
3inch pipe test plug: amzn.to/2UNIdih
Best premade shaker I've seen online: amzn.to/3lSqSkd
What you need:
1- 10-11" length of ABS 3inch pipe
1- 3inch pipe test plug
1- 3/8-16 nut
1- 3/8" fender washer
TOOLS you need:
any saw(hand powered or electric) that will cut wood will cut ABS pipe
a wrench
tons of spray paint
Thoughts:
1500rpm seams to be about what you should start out with. The rag makes it much smoother at higher rpms. Running 60 seconds for full cans seams to be more than enough. Less than full cans have more room inside for the paint to move around so they mix faster at 30-45seconds. Pulse it on and off a few times and it's ready to spray. Fits all sizes of cans from Rustoleum, Valspar, Krylon and everything in-between.
I ask nothing of my viewers but awesome people are constantly asking how they can support the channel:

I used a old long sawsall blade that I hose clamped to the can. Then I used the sawsall to shake the can which is a lot like a paint shaker. My build was essentially free as everything I used was old and wore out.

Thanks for the heads up! Hate to think how many semi-full cans of WD40 cans I've thrown out. Despite sticking a straight pin in the nozzle on top, to shakin' the living 'you know what' out of the can, nothing brought the cans back to life. I aim to build me one just like you did. Hats off my man!

A 2ft chunk of that 3" pipe is almost $20.00 w/tax at HD now. Along with $6.00 for the test plug and it's almost $30.00. I went the cheap route and made one out of a tin can a 2" bolt and some hardware. basically it's free and it works great. I use a wood shim to hold the spray can in place too.

I made one too but I attached the piece of pipe to a reciprocating saw blade. Split the pipe down the middle and used a steel hose clamp to hold the spray can in place. As the blade goes back and forth it really shakes the can, not just spins it. But your device is good too.

Decided to go with a 24" pre-cut PVC, stainless steel set of nuts and washers (Everbilt) per your specs. The screw from the test plug seems to be just right in length to fit in a drill's clutch. Thanks!

Love the simplicity. Another important reason for hand shaking the can is impart warmth from your hands into the aerosol and paint or other content. This helps to break up "clumping" of the solids that always sink to the bottom of the can especially after sitting for long periods.

I usually get a pot of water and heat it till boiling point and let it cool for about a minute. Then I throw in all my spray paint cans that im going to use and let it warm up in the water before shaking em up for use. I keep em in the water and keep the water warm until im finished. Every liquid sprays a lot smoother and better with stronger spray pressure due to the inside pressure of the can being higher from heat. You should try it.

I made one of these the way you've shown here, and then I made another using an old empty propane torch cylinder. I pulled the Schrader valve rinsed it several times with soap and water, then cut the end off. I deburred the cut end and dipped it a bit in a rubberized coating. I welded a bolt onto the screw end and pained the whole thing black. It works wonderfully.

GREAT idea and I am going to make one. Leaving the rag out induces some eccentric oscillation. With the rag tending to center the can, the contents to include the ball bearing, rotate at about the same speed as the can and the real mixing takes place when the can stops. This is why we hear the ball bearing spinning when the can stops. Some start and stopping while holding the mixer at a 45º may help.

I love this! I am notorious for having cans that have sat so long that the paint needs more time shaking. This will save my shoulder and elbow! And I don't have to spend on another machine that will need upkeep and space. It will take up one can's space in my spraypaint cabinet!

This is genius. I have (what is probably) a stupid question though, does mixing the paint in the can like this actually work? I always thought the shaking had to be vertical, as in so the ball in the can travels from the bottom to the top over and over, to properly mix the paint? Has anyone used this for spray paint and it works well? Just want to be sure it does a decent job as I'm going to have to buy a power drill to make it and don't wanna waste my money if it doesn't have great results. Thanks for any advice and again, great video.

Yes it works. The ball just moves around in the paint can to mix the contents. It doesn't matter in what direction the ball moves.
