That Free Soldier tarp should not be draped over the ridgeline, rather it should be suspended under it. In a windy situation you'll end up chafing the underside of the material and compromising it's waterproof qualities. It's got the loop and grommet in the middle specifically for this purpose. I've been using this exact tarp for about 3 years now and it has served me well.

That's a valid point. But not every tarp has that availability, so it's important to show the concept as it would be readily used and allow people to improvise it based on the gear they have.

Thanks for this comment, I would never have thought of that. I always worry about the rubbing, I see it in a lot of my other around the farm tarp uses with cheap poly tarps and wondered how it would effect or how to avoid this with an expensive tarp!

I like that you don’t rush showing the different setups. Very nicely explained. I don’t remember if you’ve done a deep dive/gear review into the different tarps available? I’m looking for a good balance of durability, waterproofness (PNWet coast!)and lightweight for minimal kit camping… hopefully at a reasonable price!

From the ships “bow-line” slurred and hollered becomes bow 🏹 Lin. My papa always pronounce it Mar-Lin spike (not marline) and it’s used for splicing heavy ropes or cables like a Fid but often worn on a lanyard or attached to your belt by a loop. Always interesting how much crossover there is between sailing and bushcraft

You could, but as I said you just need to ensure it's made of durable material.

Good video, personaly I would use the gromments only on non windy days, yes they are very conveniant but they are not meant for for fastening in high wind. Would hate to see someone ruin a fairly good tarp that way.
