This is so timely. I just started 3 worm towers. I have been composting for years but this year I really want to add more fertility to the soil using their castings.

Awesome!! That’s so wonderful you’re going for it! Composting is great but worm castings make such an immediate difference in the plant vitality that it’s very rewarding to work with it. Which reminds me- another batch of tea just finished. Time to go feed all the baby collards 🌱💚🌿

@@Goldifarms I'm definitely looking forward to see the difference on plants that I added the liquid worm tea fertilizer on 😊 Thanks for the inspiration. I love your channel. I'm also starting a food forest in Virginia and have a small channel 😁

Yay vermicompost!! I used to worm compost under the sink in my college dorm room because our city didn't have a compost program. It's truly possible in any space if you want to! Great video 😊

Thank you Laura! Yes! I love that! Taking matters into your own hands. I was first introduced to vermicompost by a roommate who had an indoor system in the corner of her laundry room and we used the tea for our house plants. No matter the scale- it’s a whole universe in there (much of which, I learned during my PDC, is still unknown to us) 🪱 🤯 😊

How do you keep your worms alive during hot summer months? We couldn't keep ours outside due to triple digit Texas summers.

and in the north US, they don't survive the winter....just fyi
@Goldifarms

That’s a good question. We keep ours in the shade and make sure it stays very moist in there. The cast iron tub seems to insulate them well and they all go down to the bottom where it’s coolest. It also gets in the triple digits during the day here in the summer (🥵) but it cools off at night here. If it’s just too hot where you are you may want to consider either an indoor system or maybe look into buried systems…. I’ve heard of people doing that for winter but maybe you could rig up something where they are in a semi-buried tub.

Looks great, your plants look super healthy! I've done a lot of research and there are two systems I think are best, this bathtub with side-to-side shuffle method (which I first learned from Dan at Plant Abundance) and the Urban Worm Bag 2.0 which is an excellent design making worm-free harvesting simple. I'm curious where did you take your PDC?

Hello 💛✨ thank you for this comment! I will look into these ideas as we begin designing to scale up our operations- this is really helpful 🙏🏼 We completed our PDC at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. It was fantastic and I highly recommend it 🌟

Once I found out how to improve my soil, I started brewing worm castings from Teaxas Worm Ranch. Here in Colorado, the soil is dense clay. 7lbs makes up to 100gal; after brewing, I spay it on my garden and yard. After watching your video, I will add sand every once and a while to help the worms out, thanks.👍
