I was able to make the cutting time on this used mora ice auger go from 10 minutes to 18 seconds! Don't let people tell you that you can't sharpen your own ice auger blades, anyone can do this. It's very easy and will save you money. Hope this helps someone.

Thank-you…Thank-you….Thank-you. Been Ice Fishing since the 1970’s. Solved the problem of dull blades via purchasing new. Used to pay as little as $8 for a set. Never recognized the Two Angle edge configuration. Very helpful.

Good tutorial video. It is better to sharpen your own but I get just buying new ones. Some people don't have time. But you can just sharpen stuff while you're watching TV. 👍

@@EngineeringHooksets , thing I noticed is that you said put the shim at the back of the blade, which would force the cutting edge inwards, the wrong way. Checked another video and it says put it at the front. FYI.

@70Marc shim placement depends on how you want your blade to cut. More aggressive angle = harder to turn but more ice per turn. Less aggressive angle = easier to turn but less ice per turn.

Sharpening shops never seem to do well for me. I've sharpened them fairly well myself but nothing beats new and they last a long time if you don't abuse them. Cutting bottom or slamming blades on the ice are what I see too many people do.

Excellent tutorial, thank you. Question for you though… my 8” Mora blades are somewhat concave (moreso than yours appear to be?). What would you recommend in that case? I’m just not sure if I can get the right angle on the whetstone - Thanks again

Thank you! I would say just try to rotate the blade while you bring it across the stone as best you can to match the curve. It doesn't need to be 100% perfect, just do your best. Good luck!

Nice job I seen you trying to use it in the first video it looked like it was not cutting to good. who say's you cant sharpen those that's crazy!! if it has a edge you can sharpen it just like a knife.

Yeah Im not sure why so many people have that opinion. Maybe its a conspiracy by the blade companies 😂

I don't have the auger with me atm but I googled it and people are saying to either use 1) aluminum foil tape, or 2) a piece of aluminum from a soda/beer can
