These ribbon/flex cables usually only come in two sizes(0.5mm and 1mm). I have repaired a lot of laptop ribbon cables. You can get 20cm long cables from the hardware store. make sure to get 20-30pin types. Use a ruler and sharp knife to cut the cables to the correct pin size. Always cut 1 pin extra the first time then shorten it to correct size.
@johnw66482 жыл бұрын
you dont need to glue the very tip. just cut a little bit off. this also moves the contact point up a bit
@zx8401ztv6 жыл бұрын
And if you have enough ribbon cable length, just take nail sissors and cut 1 mm off the end. Some of the loose track length will have gone and most important is the connector will press it's contacts on to a new place on the tracks, better connection :-D.
@FixDaily6 жыл бұрын
That's true but unfortunately (in my case) this ribbon cable was not too big, so i had to do it this way, but i have to say that i was amazed with the result, this has never failed since I've made this video and it is working since then.
@zx8401ztv6 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, your method is really good, i was just showing my bodging side lol :-D. I've been a repairer for too dam long, and bad habits creep in. I did a bodge on my neighbours laptop, the lvds screen cable was very old and cracking across all the lines as it passed the hinge. It was an odd cable that wound up like a toilet roll, but centered on the screen hinge, very old lol. Lots of really thin wires were added to get the signals over the cracks, lvds connector to laptop connector. My words were "Get a new cable, or get your data off it" so he knew it would not last. Still a bodge though :)

I understand, but in my case i didn't have that specific size and pitch and i didn't want to wait 1month to arrive from china. so i solved the problem :) Sometimes you can't even replace it because there are FFC cables with different pitch on both sides :\

@@FixDaily i mean volts, like mine it written at the back of the ribbon 20696 80c 30v
@FixDaily5 жыл бұрын
@@daydreamers845 Oh that means 80ºC and 30V maximum. You have to take a look on where it is and see if your replacement fits the needs. But if they are the same pitch usually they fit the needs. Also 30V is the lowest FFC voltage i know, at least from those white ones.
@FixDaily5 жыл бұрын
@@daydreamers845 Also if that's from a laptop, you i'll only have maximum 19V on your FFCs (that will not even be applied, usually maximum is 5V), the highest voltage you might have on your laptop is from your lcd backlight, but that is driven by wires not by FFCs

Hi sir i need help i have an HP Pavillon DM4 notebook that i disassembled for cleaning and when i assembled it i broke the touchpad flex cable connector end which should be connected to the motherboard the cable is very small it's about 0.5 cm and it contains 6 fine copper lines i tries cutting and scratching using a blade but it didn't work please if you have any idea or know a resource such as video tutorial or website that explains how to do please help me and shall be very grateful
@FixDaily5 жыл бұрын
Since they are just 6 lines you can solder some thin wires from both boards, connecting them each to other. But this will make it definitive and non-removable, so if you are able to solder wires to just one side to the flat cable to the board, you can at least have one end removable and the other end definitive. Since you have destroyed the end that connects to the motherboard maybe you can flip it and bend it to the other way, to make it fit again with some soldered wires to it soldered directly to the touchpad board - i believe both ends were the same size. This way you don't solder wires to the motherboard. If you can remove the connector and solder the Flatcable to the touch pad it might work aswell, it depends the thickness of that wires. Use hot glue to make everything steady. You can also buy the flat goo.gl/KzsBn4 is this one?

Hi sir i am sorry i deeply apologize for being so late to reply you i with the help of friends of mine was luckily and happily able to find a shop that sells standard 10 pins flex cables that i bought and took with the computer to a repair shop where the repairer modified the flex cable to have only 6 pins and place it in and it finally worked and happiness made me forget to reply you! again i apologize and i thank you a lot and i won't hesitate to ask your help if i would find any issues or difficulties. You have put the glue, then cleaned it from all the pins. So, what was the reason for using it? Please, let us understand the whole idea. Thanks a lot. Eng. Wissam
@FixDaily5 жыл бұрын
Hi, because some pads were loose and i couldn't cut it because the size was not enough for cuttings. Also because it is easier if you glue it, comparing to cut and strip the top protection.

if you have a fiber glass pen, you can had extra isolation to it and rub it. But it will probably make it weaker. You can also use a very sharp blade, but it is always very tedious, usually you end up destroying it even more :\
