They should be planted with the scales on the tuber pointing up. This is much less of a struggle for the plant to grow. Love these guys.

You know that you can eat the leaves and the flower of the Oxalis. They had an acidic flavour like the lemon. Actually my grand mother used to put some leaves in the salad and the taste is amazing.

Don't have too much they're mildly toxic - we humans can take it because the dosage isn't that much but small pets will fall ill

My bulbs are attached to larger beige colored double carrot type looking roots. Should I cut that part off and just replant the salmon colored corn bulbs only?
@SuburbanSill5 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I would say don't cut it off, but I would be curios to see a picture. Can you send me one on Instagram @suburbansill?

Great video. Thanks. Do I just leave the bulbs on the ground for winter? (I live in zone 7a). What if I plant them indoors - anything to do during winter? Thanks.
@SuburbanSill4 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are hardy in zone 7. If indoors, allow them to go dormant and die back...stop watering and remove from light and then bring them back out in spring and resume watering.

I have this plant and would like to send a friend a bulb, and ideas on how to? Don’t want to damage the bulb.
@SuburbanSill4 жыл бұрын
Gently dig up the “bulb mass” and pull off the little bulb offsets or you can cut and divide the rhizomes. You won’t damage it. I think when you pull up the clump it will be pretty clear what is the offset and what is the main bulb. Does that help? The corms are like little skinny pine cones.
@rosioruiz12374 жыл бұрын

How do you get a full plant like they sell in stores this way? I followed this and placed the bulbs so far apart mine is just a few little plants in a pot while I would like it to be full and lush...
@SuburbanSill4 жыл бұрын
Yea, I hear ya! So over time your corms will grow underneath and out out new sprouts, I think it just takes time to fill in. Also, you don’t live, or I assume, you don’t live in the conditions of a greenhouse so it’s hard to get those super lush plants. You can place the corms close together and then will help.
@SuburbanSill4 жыл бұрын
Since you don’t live in the lush conditions of a greenhouse it is always going to be hard to get that look. Give it time, it will fill in as the corms grow and double up. You can always plant the corms closer together too, but I hear ya. The lush ones are so beautiful. You’ll get there.
@jessl95234 жыл бұрын

They are toxic. Apparently they have a very bitter taste that’s is supposed to act as a deterrent, but they are poisonous.

@SuburbanSill5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, maybe give it some more time. Is there a chance you put them down in the soil too deep? I just put a few more corms in my pot yesterday to fill in. I'll keep watch and see how long it takes and get back to you. Maybe gently brush the surface and see if there is anything underneath working its way up.
@Gretasaur5 жыл бұрын
Make sure your pot has drainage. Bulbs & tubers are susceptible to rot if the water can’t drain.
@kenjiro26765 жыл бұрын
Turns out the cold weather is slowing the growth down. They are making roots and new growth, right now I can see a few starting to sprout leaves now! Right now they are with me inside under T5HO grow light.
