In the wake of creating instant 3D models, this amazing 3D tool seems to have been around for a while now, and with a free and opensource tool like Dust 3D the approach which it comes with shares an interesting viewpoint which breaks out of the traditional method of 3D model creation, rigging, and animation.

because the skin mod in blender is very glitchy and hard to get the model looking how you would like it. Also if you want to pose the model you will need to create the rig from scratch and do some weights. In Dust3D you dont need to worry about that at all..

So. Modeling? I'm confused why this is faster
@WaterShowsProd
@WaterShowsProd 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking at first it was not really different than blocking out with extrudes, though it does seem simpler to edit by just adjusting the nodes a bit. I can see this being a nice way for people to get their feet wet in modelling before leaping into all the editing tools of a proper modelling environment.
@DaroxxFR

This isn't so much as a quicker solution as it is a more "user-friendly" solution for people new to modeling. I myself have spent years trying to learn to solo create a game and one of the things that always holds me back in the fact that I can't just spend months focusing on modeling techniques. I need to learn enough to get by so I can move onto the next thing. Eventually, as I learn more and more as time goes on I go back and revisit the things I sped through. With how modeling has advanced through the years you can more or less skip the whole box modeling stages and move right into sculpting, hell a lot of people skip the whole concept phase and do it all in sculpting. I am currently in this situation where I'm not the strongest or quickest box modeler so my base meshes either take forever or just don't come out that great. This tool on the other hand will pretty much allow me to make a decent base mesh in a matter of minutes cutting down hours on my projects. Simply put as a new modeler working for a base mesh would you rather spend nearly a week in blender practicing and learning primitives or just load up this program and get it done on the first go?
@iLikeCoffee777
@iLikeCoffee777 4 жыл бұрын
@@DaroxxFR it's far faster if you are modeling from reference and need to get exact details from the reference image. Also much faster for blocking small details that will be covered with textures. He made it look a lot less useful because he didn't have the second reference and didn't do the details. I hate the standard extrude systems in most modeling software and this way of doing things makes getting workable models made so much faster.

Well, the Skin modifier doesn't create a rig, but it can do modeling similar to this. I don't really like this package personally. I think it's extremely overhyped (Dust 3d). The resulting mesh is really garbage as far as the underlying mesh. It's fine for people who are just starting out in 3d, but really that's about it. Maybe it will improve in the years to come, but I tried it out and it's a little silly in my opinion.
