Thank you for your video. I tried it and it worked, I could move my stocks form Revolut to Interactive Brokers. Fractional shares were not transfered, so I had to sell them on Revolut.

Hi Kai! Do you know how it works with taxes? I’d like to start investing long term, so do I understand correctly that unless I sell something for profit I don’t have to pay taxes?

Hi Asha, that's correct, you only pay taxes on your stock gains when you sell, not before. Only for Dividends if they are paid out to you or reinvested and it's over a certain amount in a year, depending on where you live, you would need to pay taxes that year, as Dividends are usually considered income. Hi Adam, many thanks and glad you enjoyed it. Indeed, not the cleanest interface but you get used to it. You will get a notification on your IB account and you will see it in your cash account and later it will be added to your total balance. If you click into each stock you will also see it listed under transactions. I still prefer using Dividend watch to connect my IB account there and automatically see all upcoming dividend payments, dates and amounts, much cleaner. Link in my description. Cheers mate.

Hi Kai, So I transferred stocks to IBKR but now I am asked to provide 'cost basis' for each stocks. I tried to investigate but I can't really found clear answers how to calculate it. The IBKR website is also not really intuitive. Obviously I have several stocks bought at different time at different prices plus the fractions were not even transferred... So how on earth this 'cost basis' is calculated?:S Your answer would be much appriciated, thanks.

Hi there, that's a good question I've gotten from a few people. I think if you've made a lot of trades in the past it will be tough to track, but IB obviously might not have access to it if your previous broker did not send those details, so maybe contact them and they could help you to get those cost basis transactions, which you can then manually enter on IB. Revolut customer service told me when you transfer using ACATS, there is no fee. Do you know how much (small fee as you said) it costs when transferring form Revolut to Interactive using ACATS??

Hi mate, I don't as I sadly didn't know about it at the time and used another way. But either way, I doubt it will be more than €100 in total or much lower depending on your portfolio size. Long-term it's worth it to have peace of mind knowing that your portfolio is safe at IBKR. Cheers

Hi Holly, just logged into my account and found this: Free of Payment Transfer of Global Securities Basic FOP (Free of Payment) is a method to transfer assets from financial institutions that are generally outside the US. IBKR will coordinate with your Canadian, European, Middle East/African, Asia/Pacific financial institution to transfer global equities, fixed income, structured products, and options on a free-of-payment basis. You will need to instruct your broker separately in order for them to match our settlement instructions. So basically IBKR won't charge you anything, but your sending broker might, so just check with them depending on who it is. Hope this helps. Cheers.

In Revolut the stocks are under your name and can be transferred in case of insolvency. So what’s the point of the 500k insurance?

Even if the stocks you hold in Revolut are in your name and transferrable, the $500,000 insurance, which is likely coverage provided by SIPC (Securities Investor Protection Corporation), serves as an additional layer of protection. This insurance helps safeguard your assets in situations where the brokerage fails financially and there are issues with the recovery of your securities or cash. It covers up to $500,000 in securities, including a $250,000 limit for cash, ensuring that even in the worst-case scenario, your assets have some level of protection. It’s all about securing your investments as much as possible. Cheers

Hi, good question. From what I've been told, sadly Revolut won't let you transfer your shares out of Revolut anymore:( Strange decision... So in this case you would need to sell it all and repurchase on another broker. Cheers, Kai

Well personally I moved out as I wanted to grow my portfolio long-term and they did not see the right option for that, so I sold it and moved the funds to another broker.

Can you please tell me when transferring from another broker do they sell the stock at current price and buy at current price or do you keep all the average costs on all your stocks as they were with previous broker. For example : If you have Apple stock that you bought @ $100 and it is now trading @ $120 when moved will you keep the same average price of $100 on the stock with the $20 gain as in the old broker or will IB sell and rebuy @ the current $120 price of the stock?

Hi Petar, good question, basically it's called an 'in specie transfer' where they basically just transfer your shares from one broker to another, changing the custody of the shares, they won't actually buy and sell them, just move to another broker. Depending on your outgoing broker, some share cost basis, some don't so would be good for you to manually track that just in case, but they can also send you this in data form. Good luck.

Hey Alessandro👋 Transferring your positions from DeGiro to IBKR (Interactive Brokers), huh? Smart move to consider the impact on your equity line! Here's the deal: when you transfer positions, it's usually only the open positions that move over. Your realized losses (or gains) from DeGiro stay with DeGiro. They're part of your trading history there and don't transfer to IBKR. So, no worries about your old equity line muddying the waters in your new IBKR account! 😌 But remember, it's always a good idea to double-check with both DeGiro and IBKR about the specifics. Each broker can have slightly different policies or procedures. Cheers

Hi there, I understood it should normally work but not always, might depend on the broker you send it from so can't guarantee all your statistics and cost basis will be carried over to IB. Hi Alexander, this is actually a very good question. Just had a look on Revolut website, it doesn't seem that they keep your Crypto with DriveWealth, but a separate place. Here is what it says" 'We will hold your cryptocurrencies on your behalf and you will have a right (called a ‘beneficial right’) to them. This means you can tell us when to sell or transfer it (within the limits of these terms and conditions). You have complete control of your cryptocurrencies, and we will only act upon instructions you give us. You will not be able to carry out transactions yourself. The cryptocurrency we buy for you is held in a ‘virtual account’ that also holds cryptocurrencies for other Revolut customers. You will not have a separate cryptocurrency account. You can use the Revolut app to see the amount of cryptocurrency we’re holding for you. There won’t be any contractual relationship between you and our partnered cryptocurrency exchanges or any sub-custodian we appoint.' Therefore, transferring all your DriveWealth holdings should not affect your Revolut crypto👍 Cheers

@@antofitness3318 Well if you are serious about your portfolio and want to build it up long term, I think it would be good to change eventually to a broker that allows you to move your portfolio without having to sell it. Like a Crypto exchange where you can just withdraw your funds, otherwise, you are fully dependant on them to not go bust.

Hi Thanapol, good question, haven't done it myself, but as per their website it looks like you can. 'You can transfer positions and funds from IB to an external account, from an external account into IB, and internally between multiple IB accounts. Log into Account Management and use the Position Transfers page for positions or the Fund Transfers page for funds.'

Hi there, didn't know about it but seems you are right, though it appears they are just having to comply with EU sanctions, which I guess any broker based there would need also. Maybe then better of course to look for alternative brokers in Asia or Middle East.
