My husband and I are planning to camp in a RV on Assateague Island. I have reservations at the state park and the national seashore.This is our first time camping in a RV and going to Assateague. We have a reservation at the state park (B loop) and Oceanside loop 2 the seashore. I'm having a hard time deciding where to stay. Any tips or suggestions for first timers?
@RVBlogger4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita, Both have their advantages and disadvantages. We like staying on the beach side so I can walk right to the ocean! But others enjoy the bayside for canoeing or kayaking. So it just all depends... Try both and see which you like better! Thanks for watching the video! Mike

The ponies are everywhere on the MD side too. In MD they roam free on the beach, in VA they are penned.

Hi Cheryl, The horses are amazing. Sometimes they come right into our campsite in the evening looking for food. My daughter was down there this past summer camping with some friends who were there for the very first time and they were amazed when the horses came right into their campsite and went straight to the food coolers and tried tipping them over to open them up. It is beautiful and amazing there. My daughters (who are now 27 and 29) are lucky that my brother took them to Assateague every summer to go camping when they were kids. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked seeing the horses. Mike

New subscriber love your show think it's great. I live here in Ocean City Maryland born and raised . You all did a very good job showing the island it is a great place to go I often four-wheel drive there and also camp at the bull pen in the off-road area great place to hang out have bonfires quiet and relaxing looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Just a just a note the wild ponies also live in the campgrounds. They have a number of family groups that live in the campgrounds. We camp for two weeks in July in the state park every year in the same loop. They same family grouping is always around often showing off their newest baby pony.

Hi lizdc1, That is awesome! As many times as we have been there I never realized I might be seeing the same pony family every year. Great comment! Thanks for sharing! Mike

Great information. So beautiful! I love beach camping. Assateague and Chincoteague have been on my travel list ever since I read Marguerite Henry's Chincoteague books as a little girl. I'm on the west coast but I hope to get there some day - with luck in a nice RV!

It’s a really cool place. Wild ponies and fires on the beach at night ( in the national seashore part - fires on the beach are not allowed in the state park) Anyway - we love it there! Thanks for watching and I hope you get there in a Sweet RV someday too! Mike

Hi Blax, Assateague is beautiful. My daughters have been camping here every summer since they were kids with their uncle. And now as adults they still go here every summer. Susan and I enjoy it too! You should definitely check it out. It's also not far from Ocean City MD so you can hit the board walk and enjoy that too! Have you ever been beach camping? Thanks for watching and commenting! Mike

Hey. I have been to Ocean City but I have never been camping. I am not a fan of driving over the Bay Bridge 😞

Hi Blax, I don’t like driving over any bridges if it’s windy! But if it’s not windy then I’m fine. You’ve never been camping? You should rent an RV and try it for a weekend to see how you like it! Get on out there and enjoy the experience!

Where areas did you stay in? And what did you prefer? any loops you liked or disliked?
@RVBlogger3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew, For the beach loops we like the sites that back right up to the dunes. On the Bayside we like the sites that back up to the bay. Just use GoogleMaps in the satellite view when choosing your campsites (for any campground) and you will always find the best spots! Thanks for watching and commenting! Mike and Susan

We were just in Assateague last week for a visit! It is beautiful there. At the time we made this video the beach pass was $90 a YEAR. Now it costs $110 a year. But driving on the beach is great and I may be heading back this fall for the stripped bass run! Wish me luck!
