East Goscote tunnels searched for and discovered?

WW2 Wendal

WW2 Wendal

Күн бұрын

Today on WW2 Wendal we are going on the search for the legendary Queniborough tunnels.
In 1940 a Royal Ordnance factory was built near to Queniborough in Leicestershire. This operated as an army base until 1959 when it was decommissioned and the land bought for housing.
Legend has it that there is an entire network of bomb proof tunnels that now run beneath the modern village of East Goscote.
Today we look for those tunnels.
New videos every Tuesday and Friday on WW2 Wendal.

Newport on the Isle of Wight is said to have a network of tunnels, Freshwater Bay has remanence of tunnels in the chalk cliff under Fort Redoubt where my great grandparents lived, it is a private home now, but the beach is public and so is the cliff, maybe you should have a working holiday there, it’s a beautiful place with loads of history 😉

Well done. I have been researching the East Goscote Ordnance Survey rumours for a few years but other than a few old photos when Jelsons I think built the estate there is not much to go on other than the two great bunkers that were left from the RO factory.

I'm liking the variety of content on here lately, that brick arch looks very old, should have had a camera & light you could have lowered into the tunnel. The first one ( the drainage pipe with the hinged flap) looked fairly modern, maybe 70's or 80's era.

Having lived here all my life (29 years) and growing up on the village, there was always talk of the tunnels. I was told that a house close to the park actually have an entrance in their garden, and in the house deeds it says not to attempt to open the man hole due it being owned by the military.

Nice video again lads👍 I grew up in East Goscote many years ago, there used to be 2 old railway wagons on that piece of concrete next to the pavilion. Where the new factory units are, used to be known as The Track, lots of adventures we had there. That brought you up to the buffer, which in my childhood days, the original rail was cut to about 30cm. I know you visited it in your last video. I was told there was an entrance in the centre of the village, and also one on the perimeter,

I remember going into one of the bunkers when they were building Goscote. it was big enough to get trucks inside with a loading bay and internal rooms, iirc there were many bats in there too. - nowadays the bat brigade wouldnt have allowed it to be sealed. Hopefully in the distant future they will be legally broken into and reveal more details.

Yep, you need to find the blue prints to that place and go back, with more shovels and more buckets. Also when your worrying about moving that brick and falling 20 ft. down. "Uncle" Ian saying it's okay, he'll get it on camera. Great....just great, you collapse down into a bottomless abyss to a horrific, painful death, but it's okay, because "Uncle' Ian, got it on camera....just too funny...!
