By high school, my big sister was a budding choreographer. For the 1975 school talent show, she choreographed a modern, rock-themed interpretation of an Appalachian flatfoot jig set to this song. Those four kids brought the house down. The audience went insane.

I don't know how many tmes I have played this tune in various Irish / Celtic bands. It must be one of the erliest examples of "Celtic Rock" as I don't think Horslips were even formed back in 1971. Great stuff and thanks for that.

Except for this song, East of Eden weren't a Celtic folk rock band. In their first two albums they were more of a psychedelic jazzy group that often flirted with Middle Eastern styles.

I bought a double album just for this track - in the days where record companies would reissue two albums as a double - The most sucesfull I think was the first two Tyrannosaurus Rex albums reissued which got to number 1 in the UK album charts in the wake of Electric Warrior / T. Rex hysteria .This gave the longest title for a UK number 1 album..."My people were fair and had sky in their hair but now they're content to wear stars on their brows / Prophets seers and sages the angels of the ages"

Heard in 1971 UK thanks to London land-based pirate radio stations - who played it lots!
@Lyork3 жыл бұрын
I understand one of these pirate radio stations was actually broadcast from an old ship in the channel. My husband was the bass player on this, and he told me about this, when the BBC would only play long-hair music!
@DavidEsp13 жыл бұрын
@@Lyork Radio Caroline did that in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, from ships at various marine locations, sometimes consecutively (2 ships at once). Also there was Radio Northsea International (RNI) in the 70’s and Laser 558 in the 80’s. They tended to be in the widest part of the Thames Estuary, then when that area was brought under British jurisdiction, they shifted to the Channel, at South Falls Head, bear Goodwin Sands, nearly half-way to France.
@DavidEsp13 жыл бұрын
@@Lyork I’m one of their volunteers now, it’s licensed (at last!) and has a 4KW medium wave transmitter on 648 KHz, also on web (eg browser, phone, smart speaker) and some DAB. I highly recommend their monthly special live “Caroline North” broadcasts from their final ship, the Ross Revenge, additionally on 1368 KHz, and they run visitors trips out there (not very far out!). Next one is planned (could change) for Feb 12.
