I used to live here from my birth in 1960 until 1967. I lived with my grandparents at 7 Farm Road, this was the last house in the road, right next to the Bata Dairy Farm. My Grandfather Len was a tractor driver and also drove the combine harvester. I can remember the swimming pool, also 'The Nook' cafe. I went to Bata Primary School. Also the barbers shop down the side of the Cafeteria. Happy days for sure!

I love living here, born here and live here still. It is not just a faceless estate but has so much history.

I lived on Bata Estate from 1955-68, firstly in Bata Avenue and then in Thomas Bata Avenue. My parents worked at the shoe factory. My dad was responsible for servicing the swimming pool for a considerable time. I thought it was a great place to be brought up. There was a playground next to the tennis courts and you'd get a knock on the door of an evening to 'get yourself' down to a football match at the park involving around 30 other boys. I remember the 'Nook', the Cinema and the fire at Bata Hotel circa 1961 possibly. West Ham United appeared just about every August for a pre-season Friendly.

Did you know Lou Francis, he worked with the leather I think, he was my Uncle, worked there and lived on the estate. He used to make leather fishing rod cases and he was the bloke that gave me my first set of cricket gear, so wondered if there was a cricket pitch over there?

My best mate David Ashwell, before he died (In his 40's) was shooting a documentary of East Tilbury around the same theme using a Medium Format camera. He was interviewing people as far as I know - specifically looking for older people that would have worked at Bata. He died before he finished and I don't know what happened with the negatives - real shame as the images were brilliant. I think it may have been in conjunction with his MA.

I was born at home on Princess Margaret road in Dec 62. I went to East Tilbury Methodist school the buildings were made of flint there was a WW2 bomb shelter at the back of the bitumen playground. Mum and Dad met in the late 1940's at work at the Bata shoe factory. We migrated to Adelaide Australia in Dec 1971. I have fond memories of my early childhood growing up in Linford / East Tilbury, going to school, sailing boats on the moat at coalhouse fort, drinking pineapple juice at the ship inn. Tobogganing down the hill at the top of the road at Linford village with Dad. Sad to see that filth abusing the camera operator right at the start of this video at the railway pedestrian crossing, I have happy memories of walking across there as a child with my Mum. Seems Dad made the right decision moving here. British public need to stop believing the bullshit they read in the Murdoch press, Hes no friend of theirs. Vote for a political party and real change to pull the country out of the shit.
