grew up in Hastings, but always enjoyed trips to Eastbourne as a youngster. It looks lovely in this film, appreciate the upload.

Aussie born, my mum was born in Eastbourne and we lived there when my parents divorced from 1968-72. Went to Bourne Primary (my name is on a swimming cup that may still exist somewhere) from there to Ratton until we returned to Australia, thank you so much for the memories!

Wonderful footage of an age when life was so much simpler. Brought back memories of 1970's holidays in Eastbourne at my grandparents home. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for sharing this, as someone who's lived in both Eastbourne & Bexhill & remembers them both in the 1970's this was a joy to watch & the music was great too. To me lots looked the same today as it did back in 1970, just a lot more traffic & road signs now!

Crazy that the babies and kids in this video are now in their 50s 60s and 70s now..crazy how life goes by so quick. My mum was born in 1969. I’m only 22 but still feels like I’m 16..I have a child who’s 3 soon and feels like he was only born yesterday..it’s actually sad to think about.

I was 11/12 in 1970, this film was taken a few weeks before my 12th birthday [July]. I live in St Leonards/Hastings [16 miles away] then and now. So now elderly, and I feel sad to see the little kids in old films thinking how, like me, they are all old now.

Brilliant upload - thank you! I have visted Eastbourne many times to see my late grandfather. The shot of the Wish Tower looks very close to the view he had from his Grand Court flat.

Not seen before. I was in my last year at The Cavendish Hotel (then a De Vere hotel) as deputy to Johnnie Johnson, a great hotelier. In my afternoons off I often wandered across to listen to the band. I also remember when M&S opened and Sir Marcus Seif stayed..also Mothercare ..we all thought with the population of Eastbourne being elderly the shop would not work ..it did very well as all the grandparents bought presents for grandchildren !! So many other shots that brought back memories. Oh happy days !

I lived in Eastbourne's Devonshire ward in the 60's & 70's (and still do) and it was so clean and tidy in those days. All the guest houses on the roads leading up to the seafront & pier were immaculate, with floral displays etc. It's a crying shame the state of those same houses now which are used as HMO's 😔

@@triumphriderinblack7406 Thanks for the reply. I am sorry to learn that you had to sell the T120, but that explains the ID. I have not ridden a motorbike in 5 years now, and each year at about this time I hope to get it sorted. Maybe this year will be the one!

@@maxustaxus Good luck with that, the summer beckons! That was my fourth Bonneville since 1982, and definitely the best. Once my finances have stabilised I may get another Triumph, but a 900cc Street Scrambler this time.

@@triumphriderinblack7406 Well lets hope that your finances are in good order in time for summer...or at some point so the 900cc Street Scrambler gets some space on your driveway! I feel a bit low on finances myself, as the Norton Commando (MK3 Roadster) I have had since 1993 will need yet another recommissioning before riding this year. I don't mind the cost so much, as long as the charge is good value. If I can make sure of this, I will be riding this year!

Born in Eastbourne and schooled in Bexhill. What strikes me is how much is unchanged (excepting the cars). I drove from Eastbourne to Bexhill last year, and past the crematorium all is much the same. Check out the De la Ware Pavilion and the adjacent sea front for a taste of the 1930s!

I have some from the 1930s (Falmouth 1930s). It may be quite a few people in the past have had this idea...but it can't have been very easy or cheap.

Shame didn't see part through westham Station and up to chip shop. The two railway cottages were on the right before the railway gates and the boozer on the left after the gates!

Hi, years ago I used to pick up film archives whenever I could at auctions...the problem is the time it takes to watch stuff. You have to go through loads of poorly lit Scottish mountain holidays from the 1960s (mountains never change), or bright but predictable Spanish beach holidays before you find something like this. Ordinary street scenes from a UK town are what I look for...but these were unexceptional in there time, so tend to be hard to find nowadays. This was a good example IMHO.

Would be interesting to see what the shops in the film are now, I think that Boots and M&S are still the same. The bandstand, the seafront gardens and the Queens Hotel all still exist. I live in nearby St Leonards [16 miles from Eastbourne/4 miles from Bexhill]. I have lived in St Leonards or nearby Hastings since November 1968. I also remember childhood visits to the cafe next to the Wish Tower with my [sadly now late] parents and also to nearby Beachy Head. Also later independent visits as an adolescent and younger adult. Much of your trip to Bexhill and back is still recognisable today, both in the built-up and the rural areas except that the area just outside of Eastbourne which was undeveloped then is now a large out of town shopping area called the Crumbles. The Southdown Bus Company has long since disappeared, but Route 99 between Eastbourne and Hastings via Pevensey which it used to run, still exists, run now by Stagecoach, the route slightly changed in the Pevensey area. The route of former Southdown 15, Eastbourne-Hastings via the longer inland route also still exists now renumbered 98. Both the 15/98 and 99 routes went through Bexhill then and do now. IDK what POV stands for here, perhaps you could tell me.
