Reasons why this is my favourite coaster at Blackpool 1. There are lots of fun drops and the ride lasts fairly long 2. The idea of 2 coasters at the same time makes it more exciting 3. The queue is short and can get on the ride quick 4. Even though it is rough it makes the ride even better

The under-track roller system enables the cars to lift off the running rails, but the train is perfectly safe and "locked" to the track, so no derailment is possible. The Grand National is one of the best wooden coasters around, fast, rough and out of control. The air-time is brilliant, especially in the front or back seats.

Well 25 years ago when I used to ride this rollercoaster, it was thrilling & mental. You had no bars & straps around you for safety, you just hung on for shear life. I said to my daughter on spending most of the day on the newer bigger rides & rollercoasters, ‘let’s go on the Grand National’ for old time sake. I wish I hadn’t, this Is indeed the worst bone shaker ride I have ever been on...I thought I was going to literally die & couldn’t go on any other rides afterwards, I felt as if every bone in my body had been in a high speed car crash. My conclusion is that this ride has been spoilt by being strapped in, which it wasn’t designed for, it’s a rickety old rough ride, so you feel every bit of it. Hence I will never go on it again, but just try & remember the good old days before it was spoilt.
@SimonHoward-fb6tr9 ай бұрын
I know the "Rollercoaster" single track ride was without bar and straps, but never knew the GN was also. This would have been pre 1985 because that was my 1st visit to the Pleasure Beach.

This is the world's largest Mobius Strip. You start one one track, and come back on the other. If they let you through the station at the end of the ride, you'd complete both circuits, one after the other.
@FedericoAOlivieri10 жыл бұрын
This is not a moebius strip. You could (potentially) ride it upside down and you'd never end up rightside up
@tommycarr811110 жыл бұрын
What the hell are you talking about! This is a möbius loop. It's one of only three left. I have no clue what you're talking about being right side up?

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d9/M%C3%B6bius_strip.jpg/1024px-M%C3%B6bius_strip.jpg That is a moebius strip. It's a solid with only one face. I you imagine that it were a rollercoaster and follow it along, you'll see that after one lap you'd be at the same spot, but "upside down".
@tommycarr811110 жыл бұрын
Look, I have no clue what you're talking about. A Rollercoaster möbius loop is a racing roller coaster which, unlike other racing coasters, is one contious track. If you leave the left side of the station, you arrive back on the right. You do not go upside down.
@riparianlife9770110 жыл бұрын
Tommy Carr Well, I'm the guy who originally posted this, and I'm actually going to side with the dissenter, Federico, on this. The coaster should end up on the bottom of the track at the station if it were a Mobius strip. I'm not going to be a coward and delete my original comment. I can be proven wrong when I'm wrong, and I'll never learn if I assume I'm always right. Kudos, Federico. I still think it's an awesomely unique coaster for coming back to the other side of the station.

MSP //Molly actually it is called the big one. and has been just called the big one since 2013. First of all if you read the ride restriction board it clearly just says the big one. Second there is a massive sign at the front of the ride which says the big one not the Pepsi Max. You might be thinking that the coaster goes through a large Pepsi can well that can has been there since the ride opened and since 2013 when the sponsoring stopped the park wouldn't have removed the writing on it because having a blank can would be strange. Also look on coasterforce on ride POV of the big one and read the description it clearly says that sponsorship has dropped. Ask the staff one the ride and they would say that it is called the big one. Also it was NEVER just called the Pepsi Max and if you buy merchandise from the ride (like a hoodie for example) it says in MASSIVE writing the BIG ONE. also not trying to be annoying but don't try to argue with a coaster enthusiast because you won't win😃

Squashed Potatoe I've been going on the grand national since I was like 6 ( I'm a tall person ) and I've loved it every time I've rode it.

Such a shame that every time I ride this it gets rougher and rougher used to be bearable but I think it needs re-tracking now. Still ride it every time though.

+Nicole Tyrie I don't spam anymore.. But, if you feel inspired to mirror my behaviour, please do so.. Spamming can become a distressful thing to do (to a point at least) - the fact of treating any and all persons as identical can eventually take its toll.. My advice: just spam to a minimum! And, when you do tell people they deserve a house for free, keep in mind that all that they actually deserve is "to be told" that they deserve a house for free - all human beings should be involved in the making of their house.

I remember when I went on this back in 2004 when i was 8 years old. Really enjoyed it, even though I was reluctant to go on at first. It just puzzles me why Foinavon, The Chair and Open Ditch are not marked on the ride, and why Becher's Brook, Valentine's and Canal Turn are? Should've all been marked methinks.

I live in California but from Sheffield, went to University in Bradford, Rode over 100 coasters here in the USA But nothing beats the 'rush' of the Grand National. It's a traditional wooden coaster. Get with it people!!!

I actually , accidentally butted my mates nose, going round a bend on this. It throws you about so much. It's just awesome. That was in the the 70's. Didn't know it was still alive. So glad it is. Not for the faint hearted. I absolutely loved it. Rode it over and over 👊👊😂😂

One of the best rides in Blackpool - the really cool thing is you arrive at a different station to the one you left (this is due to the cross over), and you never know which train will win so every time you ride its different.
@Hellwyck10 жыл бұрын
There is only one track and the "cross over" hapens when you leave the station

Was on it several decades ago but it's quite outdated and more of a nostalgia trip than a serious rollercoaster these days. Blackpool Pleasure Beach should get Rocky Mountain Construction to update it like what they did with Colossus at Magic Mountain. Update this with inversions and twists and also the Big Dipper and they could really bring some new life into these almost 100 year old coasters and give the entire park back its mojo and wow factor. I'd be the first in line. At least the park is getting iCon I see. Might go just for that.

Andrew Keyz I don't want it to be RMC'd. If they could change the carriages or do anything else to make it smoother I'd appreciate that a lot more
@Charlzey19985 жыл бұрын
Roughest part of the ride for me is just after the airtime hill on the first drop and the ascent after the first drop which can clearly be seen by the nasty jolt at 1:17

Was right at the back and at one of the bumps I absolutely shattered my back. Got winded and was in bits. They should knock this one down and either recreate it or just make an entire new ride imo.

I agree. Same thing happened to me last week. Im still in pain. Terrifying having to go over the rest of the bumps after being winded and wondering if the next dip is gonna break the spine.
