I have been boating before, my first new boat was a 20 ft Sea Ray inboard and had a blast for about 7 years at our beach house in Westbrook CT. Sold the boat and beach house about 15 years ago and looking to get back into boating again and retiring down in Old Saybrook CT one day soon. I love the Axopar 28 and think it will be my next boat, since you have one for your family and I admire your boating videos from east coast yacht sales. I boat on Cape Cod waters where lately finding 2-3’ + seas often and I am super impressed with this boat & Saxdor (IMO similar design), I’m not crazy over the look of the ones with enclosed cabins but staying dry may sway my decision. Great video!

Nice video. We are considering this vessel. But would have to have twins, I will never do a single again. Wondering why you chose a single? Luckily our last boat had a single kicker to get us home when needed. Very slowly. Plus maneuverability with a twin is so much easier. But we all have our own personal choices:-)

Great video Ben. I noticed your trim indicator read 0 during the entire trip. Did you have Active Trim turned "ON"? If so, what level was your preset? I really enjoyed seeing how the boat performed in various sea conditions. These videos are very helpful & I hope you continue to make more.

Tom, thanks for the comment and for watching our videos! I don’t find the active trim helpful on the Axopars. I’ve never driven a boat that requires so little adjustment while underway or when transitioning from displacement mode to planing. Unless you’re looking to go WOT, I don’t find you get any measurable benefit from trimming the engine up. Let the hull do the work and have fun.

Hey Ryan. Do you have the stainless targa arch with hand rails running forward on the hardtop? If so I would get the Yakima rails, I believe it’s their Timberline system that would work on the stainless rails. Other than that, I hope you make it to Maine and can enjoy the coastline as much as we have!

Wow, what a beautiful family adventure! You make it look so fun and easy Ben. I saw you have a solar panel and want to know if you can comment on the watts and what you set it up to charge for. I hoped to get a roof panel on the 28 Cabin I ordered for '22, but it seems only the 37s have that as an option. Cheers!

Thanks for watching! I installed a solar panel to keep the house battery charged up while on a mooring. It’s a 54watt panel and it’s only real purpose is to maintain the charge of the batteries.

How did this trip go on gas. I believe this boat is about 70 gal tank Just checking if that tank went quick at your cruising speed ? Great video and encouragement to get outside !

When we left we topped off the tank and the day we went home we topped off again. We average about 2nm/gal so it’s east to calculate how much you’re going to burn if you know how long you’re trip is. 100nm trip is 50gal.

What size is the smaller boat you have on the roof? How did you attached it/locked it in place in order to drive at speeds around 30-35 kts?

It’s an 8.5’ inflatable with inflatable floor. Ratchet straps work great for the tie downs

Maybe this is a good idea, easy to attach and bring with me so the family can approach the island safely without risking damage to the boat.

Great video! What horsepower engine does your 28 have? Is it possible to leave the boat in the water during freezing temps? I am in VA and am concerned if the boat was not on a lift the engine might not drain all of the water out. Is this a legitimate concern? How many mph did you lose when you bottom painted yours?

Got the 300 V8. It is possible to leave to boat in the water during freezing temperatures you just have to remember to leave the engine trimmed down. If the engine is trimmed down on a lift then the water should all run out. Nearly all the boats we sell have bottom paint, so we don't have accurate data on the boat without bottom paint.

Very cool. How do you deal with winterizing the head? Is it still usable when outside temps drop in the 30s? Do you just store the boat indoors? Thanks!

Thoughtful question. What we do is winterize the freshwater system and keep a gallon of nontoxic antifreeze in the head when flushing. That way we never need to worry about a long stretch of extra cold weather.

Yes, you can get an aft shower head as an option! It's typically located in the aft storage lockers.

There is no wrong answer in the single or twin discussion for a 28 axopar. The simplicity of a single engine while still being able to cruise over 30 knots and getting over 2 nm/gal is a win in my book.
