One of the most epic and intense scenes in the history of EastEnders. Charlie stood up to the demon of the square Trevor and showed no fear.

2001 was such a good year for the show- from Phil’s shooting, Sharon’s return, Dan kidnapping Mel and this storyline it was definitely a strong start to the decade

When does it start goijg downhill? I have been watching from around 1999 on catchup
@scottyunitedboy2925 Жыл бұрын
@@Pacmanfan-po9rn for me personally, it started around 2003-4- they made a few tactical errors like bringing back Den, not really using him to his full potential and then killing him off and some awful casting decisions like the notorious Ferreira family who barely lasted 18 months. The show had this obsession with gangsters around this time too, leaving to extremely stupid scenes like Lisa returning and then practicing with a gun in her spare time, as well as clichéd characters like Andy Hunter. Once we got into 2007 onwards, the show definitely started to find its feet again with some better characters and storylines.

It went downhill after the final showdown between Trevor and Little Mo on Halloween 2002, resulting in Trevor's death. However, it did start to show signs of starting to go downhill in the months before that, with storylines such as those involving Steve Owen and Mel all wrapped up earlier in the year. The Trevor and Little Mo storyline still awaiting its conclusion is what kept the show captivating for much of 2002, while the rest of the show started to become boring with so many good characters, that were central to plots throughout 2000 and 2001, gone earlier in 2002, and other storylines that kept the audience hooked throughout those those years all wrapped up in the first few months of 2002. Once the explosion that killed Trevor occurred, the show just became a yawnfest.

This is an incredible scene I'd never seen prior to the repeats on Drama/UKTV Play, and it deserves more credit as a standout duff duff from this era.

Thats how DV abusers operate. They twist things around and manipulate. Trevor was taunting Charlie because he knows Charlie loves his girls and Charlie like any decent father probably felt like a failure that he didn't know Kat was being abused by his brother and couldn't do anything because he found out nearly 20 years later

Maybe it was for the best that the square's residents found out the real truth about the Slater family predicaments. I won't say Trevor did them a favour. However at least Charlie no longer looks like the villian who broke up Peggy and Harry by driving him away out of love for Peggy, a label he in no way deserves. Peggy also gets to realise that she in fact had a lucky escape when she was at first devastated by Harry's sudden departure. She nearly became his wife! The residents also learn the truth about Harry, a person who they welcomed and bid a heros goodbye to. Peggy seems to cheer up a bit on learning the truth, she later tells Kat how Harry is "stuck with being 'im", a very apt and consoling statement!!

I remember here in Ireland there was big controversy about how the Irish were being portrayed in eastenders. Tom Banks was a bit of a character and there were a lot of complaints here in Ireland about the Irish being portrayed badly in English soaps. However, they gave him a heros send off a couple of years later when Tom Banks saved little Mo from a fire started by Trevor when he goes back in to try and save Trevor and they are both engulfed by flames and die. As Kat said at the time, he should have let him burn. However, fair play to the Scottish for not complaining about Trevor portraying them badly, as he is a nasty piece of work and the only Scottish character in the soap at the time.

Charlie brought that on himself by going for Trevor without realizing how he could twist it, namely trying to demonstrate that Charlie stood by and let Harry molest Kat. Furthermore, the Queen Vic should've had safeguarding procedures that they undertook, which is legally obligated on any employer, to prevent Charlie being able to lunge at Trevor in the way he did.
