COMPLAINT LODGED WITH THE BBC: Normalisation of domestic violence  As i await a response to my previous complaint on the same topic (CAS-5714077-W6K9H2) i have witnessed yet another case of the BBC not paying due care and attention to a serious societal issue: domestic violence. Case in point: Eastenders 3/12/19. Towards the end of this particular episode we see character 'Honey' physically assault her on screen partner, 'Adam'. More specifically, the abuse entails: 'Honey' hurling a photo frame at 'Adam' , 'Honey' shoving 'Adam' and finally 'Honey' striking 'Adam' in the face with a bin, drawing blood. She then goes on to make a joke about this, the quip is applauded by two female onlookers ('Iqra &' Ash'). Granted, 'Adam' has been unfaithful to 'Honey' and in some sense emotionally abusive to her, which is of ocurse totally unacceptable and reprehensible. However, Honey should have left the relationship and discontinued contact with 'Adam' . If the roles were reversed and Honey had been unfaithful, should 'Adam' have thrown a photo at her, shoved her then struck her in the face with a bin before joking about it, with two men onlookers who applaud? How would that play out? Where was the BBC helpline at the end of the programme for those (of any gender) who have suffered domestic violence? What message did this episode send out to it's younger audience? In reality, would the character of 'Honey' be able to claim self defence? Why are the BBC propogating the notion that domestic violence aimed at men is acceptable and even humorous? Please note, it will not be an acceptable reponse to merely state that this is a fictional programme. The issue of domestic violence is very real. I would like an unambiguous , comprehensive response to this complaint ASAP. Thank you
